The course descriptions are here for the 2006 NHC Summer Institute!!! The Institute (August 7-13, 2006, Franklin Pierce College, Rindge NH) is a week of multigenerational nondenominational Jewish learning where every teacher is a student and every student is a teacher. [...] This year’s courses range from “Men, Women, and Sex in the Talmud” to “Prayer in Judaism and Islam” to “Jewish Conceptions of War Ethics” to “Reading the Talmud as Shakespeare”. See the full list of courses! The Institute will also feature special workshops on Friday and Saturday with Ruth Messinger of American Jewish World Service, and community-wide arts programs with our Poretsky Artists-in-Residence, visual artist Kathy Hart and dancer Andrea Hodos. Every day there is a wide range of traditional and creative prayer options. The NHC is based on the idea that every teacher is a student and every student is a teacher, so in addition to the full-week courses, any participant can offer a workshop on any topic. [...] We’ve blogged a bit about the Institute already — it’s a chance for independent grassroots Jewish communities to get together for a week of Jewish learning and living — and a bunch of you are coming already. But we know that not everyone can get away from work/life/etc. for an entire week. Therefore, there is also an option of coming just for Shabbat. For those who can’t afford the full price, we’re very excited to announce that significant discounts are now available for Shabbat if there is financial need.
