It's enough…really

yes, i am actually posting a fraternity rush video….there are days when i wonder what is happening to my life.

yes, i have a fear that a 14-year-old who’s read my book is going to look at this and be like “so fraternities are cool and legitimate and don’t ever rape women”…but, in all seriousness, i owe a debt of gratitute to Dan. and, to be fair, a fraternity in my college were the biggest supporters of our Take Back the Night march….
anyway. movie. check it out.

  1. However, I’m disappointed by some of the comments on the movie. The majority of them are praising the movie for what it is: a very funny encounter with a woman who has great comic timing and a decent singing voice (not to mention that she knws the words to Dayeinu). And being a black person myself I am aware that some of the laughter derived from this clip comes from her being a gentile who knows a traditional Jewish song as well as her stereotypically harsh manner which is associated with many African-American women. Fine. Nothing offensive about that necessarily. But when some of the comments call her a “black bitch”, and I have to take pause b/c I wonder if this exploiting already fragile racial/sexual tensions within and around the black and Jewish (as well as the Jews of African descent) communities.

  2. I gotta throw in a little context here.
That was shot at the Wiener’s Circle, a Chicago hot do joint that is notorious for the antics of the people working behind the counter. I’ve been yelled at and made fun of by all kinds of people working there.
The tradition of the place is that you gotta yell back, not with racist stuff, but you know…
It can sometimes be the case that if you try to be polite when you order, you get yelled at even more.
Place is awesome. Had to point it out.

  5. Amazing! As an AEPi Brother myself, while I think your barely concealed dislike of fraternities is based on generalizations and is wholly unfounded, that video was hilarious!
I’m impressed the woman knew Dayenu… quite impressive.

  6. this is just about the most fun thing i’ve ever seen on youtube. i’m fine with the conflation of assumptions in the name of harmless comedy. clearly this woman is too. bring it on.
