Europeans walk out of Ahmadinejad's speech at Durban II

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon said just after Ahmadinejad finished speaking and the delegates returned to the room, “I deplore the use of this platform by the Iranian president to accuse, divide and even incite. This is the opposite of what this conference seeks to achieve. We must all turn away from such a message in both form and substance.”
Oh, and there were clowns too.

  1. I challenge anyone to tell me what part is false in Ahmadinejad’ speech. Everything he said seems objective history. What is going on in Gaza is genocide (by Nuremberg standards, anyway)
Also, of 103 delegates (or more) of the conference, only the Europeans (not all of them, though) walked out. I ask: Eurocentrism insists on imposing itself again in history? Maybe the speaker does not have many credentials to borrow authority from, but what he said is correct and true. The state of Israel is a racist state. All the world knows that. But the point of the conference was to distract people from the major racial confrontations in the world, the Palestinian-israeli conflict being the most well-known. Isn’t the walk out of the conference by the Europeans in line with the current and prevalent islamophobia?

  2. I know multiple definitions of genocide and, while abhorent, the occupation does not fit the international definitions of genocide. It may fit the definition of apartheid if you try hard enough.
    You’re welcome to explain, however.

  3. Alejandro,
If Israel was actually trying to committ genocide in Gaza (God forbid,) do you think there would be anybody alive today in Gaza?

Why even bring an argument like this up? Is Alejandro too stupid to understand this implicitly? Of course not. He’s purposefully blurring the truth to fit his agenda. I have to admit – the Israel=Nazis narrative is gaining steam. The first time they said it, they were laughed at. The second time, the third time, the fourth time… It’s been repeated so much it’s gaining ground on sheer inertia. Maybe half the activist community has adopted this language by now.
“Genocide” means nothing anymore, like “socialism” or “fascism”. They’re just words to shut others up with and claim moral superiority. How many victims of real genocide in Darfur cross into Israel every day, while Sudan sits on Human Rights steering committees?
The West has no voice, no values and no spine.

  5. Firouz, the West just stood up for itself at Durban. But I do agree with you on the death of language, so long as you include the word “terrorist” among that list of meaningless epithets.
