Jonathan - I just noted that the "interests of the Jewish people" and "the interests of the state of ISrael" are not necessarily the same.

"Quite frankly, there is very little to redeem this military to me, except for the amazing voices of the soldiers who contributed their testimonies here."

There is nothing to redeem this military? How about the fact that they keep the State of Israel alive and safe? Yes, there are problems and factions in the army that do it a disservice with their behavior, but that doesn't take away from what the army has accomplished for the Jewish people.
The statement quoted above is clearly a dumb statement from a person who is unable to see anything remotely positive about ISrael.

You don't think that many people in Israel are part of the "Jewish People," or you don't accept the whole concept of the "Jewish People?"

The "Jewish People" have nothing to do with this at all. Most of the "Jewish People" lives outside of Israel.

ended the assault before a single objective was met, just as in Lebanon.

How exactly did Hizbollah "defeat" Israel in 2006?

leftist exercises in warmaking

There goes that softy Ehud Barak again. He's so clumsey: commander of Sayeret Matkal; Commander of the Central Command; head of Military Intelligence; Chief of Staff; Prime Minister; former and current Defense Minister. (He was a commander in most of Israel's famous operations, including the '67 War, '73 War, the Sobena rescue, Entebbe, the Lebanon hits, the Abu Jihad assasination, the attack on the Syrian reactor; the attack on the Hamas-weapons convoy in Sudan.)

Would somebody please take away the reigns of control from this apparatchik, who puts political interests above those of the Jewish people!!!

...and yet the rocket fire from Gaza ceased.
I don't hear Hamas asking for a rematch...

Olmert, Barak and Livni are apparatchiks who put their political interests above those of the Jewish people when they ended the assault before a single objective was met, just as in Lebanon.

Yet, the northern border is also quiet for 3 years now.

Both wars were emotional outbursts (94% Israeli public support), launched (and then orphaned) by the Israeli left and center-left with little strategic preparation, though plenty of tactical posturing. As far as outbursts go, these clumsy leftist exercises in warmaking achieved something all of KFJ's posts put together couldn't... quiet.

Yes, even the eternal victim - the Jew - doesn't want to die a heroic death that KFJ will be proud of, and will fire tank rounds into buildings to come back home to his family. Needless to say, firing tank rounds into buildings to take down snipers is SOP since WWII. Nor does KFJ mention that the fact that if a sniper is located in a civilian building, this is itself a War Crime, and the entire structure is then a legitimate military target.

And of course, it is only days ago that American troops in Afghanistan received a new COIN strategy that forbids them from returning fire against Taliban fighters unless they are able to see the enemy. We are left to understand that the last 8 years of American combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the policy was to bomb into the water table any location suspected of harboring insurgents.

Finally, Hamas got the message, and so did the Palestinians. Support for Hamas is down to what, 18%, and dropping? Why do you think the Palis can't reach a coalition government? A government means more elections, and Hamas has suddenly lost interest in those. The current state of fiefdoms suits the Palestinian leaderships, and their masters in Washington, Riyadh, Damascus and Tehran just fine.

All's well that ends well.

Those testimonials where an utterly disgusting read. But on a lighter note, the highlight of the BBC video is when she says she expects the names and ranks of soldiers. Classic Israeli humor...

But in all seriousness, I for one am completely shocked that these testimonials depict Israelis as aggressive, militaristic, and xenophobic. Israelis are usually such docile and humble folk. They told us they where having a moral war over there in Gaza, and now look at this - its not moral at all! its so upsetting! I would never have given the go ahead for this war, if I had known they where not going to go about their warring in an upright moral way.
