Aryeh,
That is fascinating research. Thanks for the link. What would it sound like for politicians to do as you suggest?

Actually, Uri, your first point is just not true. See here: http://publicreligion.org/research/2012/04/jewish-values-in-2012/ Jews actually are concerned with these issues. My point is that they should be concerned also because they are jewish--and that politicians should not pander only on Israel.

"As a community we should demand that when politicians speak about Jewish issues, they speak about the issues that really matter to us, issues of social and economic justice."

That our literature since biblical times is (especially) concerned with social and economic justice is one thing. To say that because of that fact, current Jews are also concerned with these things, writ large as you seem to be suggesting, is quite another. Israel really does matter to some Jews at the ballot box as I'm sure that social and economic justice does as well. They are not mutually exclusive. What I think you meant to say was 1) Jews should embrace the social justice tradition that is prevalent in our culture and 2) Politicians should wise up and not think that the only way to get the Jewish vote is to pander about Israel. No group is or should be monolithic in their views about "what they want". Respectfully.
