Yauch identified as both Catholic and Jewish in interviews(and Budahist of course). Since he and his group celebrated diversity, I thought it good to mention it. Thank you for the great column though. I am myself still grief-stricken regarding his loss and this piece helps me to cope.

Beautiful article. So genuine and truly a great summation of what I think lots of people feel the Beasties gave to them, especially myself. RIP MCA.

Thank you for a wonderful article. It put a lot of what I have been feeling into words. Mary, I am happy to read that they were wonderful to meet in person as you thought they'd be. They always appeared very genuine.

Brain- Aryeh's talking about how a person who identified as Jewish, at least culturally if not religiously, impacted him as a young American Jew. I know he's not trying to take anything away from Yauch's catholic fam, but speak to how he was affected. So I'm not sure what your point is, but hope to hear more about how MCA affected you.

Enjoyed reading this. It makes my heart happy when I read something by someone who loved him/loves them as much as I do. I actually was lucky enough to meet them on three different occasions (2x in 1992 and 1x in 2007) and I can say it is truly a gift when you meet your heroes and they are exactly as you thought they'd be. And it is because they are never anything but REAL.
