Jewish Girl Scouts Get Palestinian Pen Pals

The PR Newswire reports,

Troop 2077 Jewish Girl Scouts is selling more than cookies — they have become purveyors of peace with a group of Palestinian girls from a Palestinian girls school on the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem. Letters peppered with “I Love Yous”, pictures, candy, and of course, Girl Scout cookies, are being packaged and posted this Friday by the Jewish troop to a group of girls, ages 11 to 13, in East Jerusalem.

That’s cute. You think these girls will grow up wanting to spill the blood of their Girl Scout pen pals or can such interactions give them developmental fodder with which to reject the propaganda they’re fed about Americans and Jews?

  1. damn, hate that evil zionist propoganda thats poisoning american jewish opinion towards the muslims: imagine, the bs that the muslims would saw off the head of an american jew..oh, that happened to daniel pearl, must have been an aberation. oh, that happened to berg, well then, it must be israels fault! but forget all that, imagine the bs fed to us that the top cleric from saudi arabia would tour canada after calling the jews evil, sons of monkeys, etc…oh you mean that really happened? boy, those damn israeli driving the poor mullahs to say such things, you know, moby, those israelis are really as awful as you say!!

  2. Why, because he isnt buying into your leftist ideology?
I think anyone who champions the rights of those who want to kill him is in need of medication.

  3. Damnit, Avi, I think you miss read the last line. It’s aimed at the Palestinians. But Mo, you sarcastic tone doesn’t help you point, if I’m reading it correctly, that you think Israeli/Palestinian interaction is GOOD for Israelis by teaching the Palis not to hate us.

  4. Once you give someone a real human dimension, it’s a lot harder to hate them. This sort of undertaking sounds really cool – I have no idea how or why anyone could find fault in friggin girl scout cookies. I have to say I am surprised and impressed that the administrators of the girls school are allowing this exchange to take place, but what the hey, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I hope it works out….

  5. BS:
What about the guy in Texas who killed his Jewish friend. If worked up enough into a lather you can hurt anyone.

  6. Cookies? Listen, I think the gesture is sweet and the mindset is right to teach young Israelis that we need to show love to our neighbours, but do you honestly think cookies and cards are going to do anything? Granted, this is not meant to solve the entire middle east conflict. I personally wouldn’t be surprise if the PA and friends looked at the cookies and told the kids that they are evil gifts from the infidels and we should destroy them (the cookies).

  7. do you honestly think cookies and cards are going to do anything? My personal feeling is that the effect of this kind of exchange will be somewhere in the region between absolutely useless, at the bottom end, and touching a few lives, at the top.
In other words, I’m pretty sure that “it can’t hurt” covers that entire range. Suggestion: lighten up.

  8. avi — is it possible for you to engage in any arguments without just setting up a bunch of straw men and knocking them down? because that’s all i’ve seen from you and frankly it makes you look like you’re foaming at the mouth.

  9. to solom, yes i did misread the last line, actually think whoever said it cant hurt is probably right. as to setting up straw men, they arent straw if theyre real. the leftists of the moby ilk sustain their position by ignoring the real world. sorry if a statement of facts makes delusional beliefs more difficult to hold; but it is oftentime useful to recognize that many muslims consider themselves our blood enemies (and have since the koran, have been reading on the web that the koran retells the story of mohammed capturing a jewish tribe in saudi arabia and CUTTING OF THE HEADS of the males, enslaving the females and children), beheading of jews seems the approved method of radical muslims commiting murder (other infidels just get shot in the back); we (and i use that word advisedly) are facing a palestinian population that applauds the murder of baby girls, that tears dead bodies of jewish soldiers apart and holds their remains for ransome, and commits other attrocities that we all know about. i post some of these every once in a while to remind moby and friends that israel faces not just an implacable foe, but a palestinian population that applauds some of the greatest attrocities of this short decade. do the israelis commits wrongs, of course, theyre human. but its oh so easy for we americans to sit on our fat little posteriors, enjoying the hightest standard of living and and the greatest economy and the freest society in the world, and critique israelis fighting for their very existence. throw in a left leaning background, an nyu education that results in a large vocabulary, some teen age angst, a little self hatred, some unresolved issues with your parents, a chance to feel youre just a little superior to ordinary jews who are just part of the establishment, and you end up with the mobies of the world.

  10. as far as i’m concerned, nick berg was more likely killed by the u.s. for propaganda purposes than he was arab terrorists.
how suspicious is it that, berg was in u.s. custody in iraq a week before his death and the u.s. denies itthe beheading is claimed to be in response to the torture but was filmed two weeks before the torture story broke (ever seen wag the dog?)the fbi interrogated berg soon after 9/11 because one of the alleged terrorists had used berg’s e-mail account to send communicationsberg’s father is a major player in international a.n.s.w.e.r., the worker’s world party’s anti-war goupi know, i know, slippery slope, but if this stuff means anything when put together, berg’s sort of the perfect target for a psyops job: if he was aiding terrorists, instead of painting him that way (like another john walker lindh), they can paint him as proud and concerned progressive jew who was ruthlessly slaughtered by (ahem, cia operatives posing as) vicious terrorists and, at the same time, off him to meet their own ends. then when the story about the torture breaks — “but look at what animals these people are!” and all the outrage shifts.last night this fucking girl i know actually compared the tortures to college fraternity hazings and said it paled in comparison to the beheading.ah this great gullible nation… nice chairs by the way. (here’s a backup of that link, in case it goes down.) some have claimed the orange suit and wallpaper in the berg video are the same used in abu ghraib prison as well.

  11. moby, i can only assume that your last posting is a sick, demented joke. if not, you are one sick fuck who needs to locked up.

  12. avi, get a hold of yourself. And for one moment consider why this administration has to lie in order to make a liar out of the elder Berg.
    First:
“I have confirmed that your son, Nick, is being detained by the U.S. military in Mosul. He is safe. He was picked up approximately one week ago. We will try to obtain additional information regarding his detention and a contact person you can communicate with directly,” Payne wrote to Berg’s father, Michael, on April 1.
    Next:
The government says the e-mail from Payne was false. State Department spokeswoman Kelly Shannon said Payne’s information came from the Coalition Provisional Authority. The authority did not tell Payne until April 7 that Berg had been held by Iraqi police and not the U.S. military, she said. “As Mr. Berg had been released, the consular officer did not convey this information to the family because he was released, thankfully,” Shannon said. “And we thought he was on his way” (AP, May 13).
    Any better ideas…?

  13. In the Bizzaro-world of Bush-Cheney, the definition of “confirm” is apparently as loose as words like “character,” “honor,” and “integrity.”

  14. Mobi, its true that there is plenty of suspicion around teh killing of berg. However, its quite telling that you think that it is more likely that berg was killed by the us, than by the arabs. How does someone who has benefited so much from living in the u.s. come to hate the country so much as to immediately suspect that they are to blame?

  15. Also mobi, that post you linked to doesnt say it was filmed two weeks before the abuse story broke (but im sure in your head it said that).
Tell me, do you search for ways to hate the U.S. in your spare time?

  16. moby use to be a mildly amusing, slightly politically immature, reasonably bright blogger who could be relied upon to express the leftist position on israel. with his latest post he has just crashed and burned; perhaps he forgot to take his meds, perhaps the pressure of justifying his positions in the face of reality became too much, but whatever, he no longer merits a response, any more than those who think the jews were responsible for 9/11, or that the jews control bush. moby 5/14/04 rip

  17. oh please..both you guys are totally ridiculous and clearly have no memory of the spanish american war (“you supply the pictures, i’ll supply the war”), the iran-contra affair, the entire iraqgate scandal going on around us right now, or knowledge of the history of covert intelligence operations in this country since the 1940s when the cia started recruiting nazis.
no, i do not look for ways to hate america, because i do not hate america. however, america does give its citizens plenty of reason to be suspicious of its government, and, like a good american patriot, i am very, very suspicious and wary of my government.
“Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
    –George Washington
“Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.”
    –Thomas Paine
i asked julian sanchez, an editor at reason magazine and an old friend of mine, how he feels about this material. he doesn’t personally believe there’s anything conspiratorial going on but says:
My own inclination so far is to think that this probably is what it looks like. But I’m not surprised that, especially under an administration where “secrecy” seems to be the watchword, people’s thoughts turn in this direction. Our system of government was explicitly designed, as the authors of The Federalist Papers put it, to guard against “the cabals of a few,” so that kind of concern has deep roots in our political culture. The larger and more complex our government becomes, the harder it is to have any confidence that the decision process is at all transparent. There are plenty of pundits on the right who argue that the photos of the abuse at Abu Ghraib should have been suppressed, in order to forestall harm to the war effort. So you hardly have to be a paranoid to start wondering whether there aren’t those in the administration who think along similar lines, or go still further.
again, that’s an editor from REASON magazine, a LIBERTARIAN journal.
fellas, stop beating your chests and thrusting your flags about blindly. it’s completely unamerican and, really, seems more like then an exhibit of nationalist socialism than anything else to me.

  18. “If you belong to those who are satisfied with expressing in speech the opinions that are correct or that you deem to be correct, without representing them to yourself and believing them, and still less without seeking certain knowledge regarding them, you take a very easy road” (Rambam).

  19. Flag waving:
“I’m probably not the only one up at this table that is more outraged by the outrage than we are by the treatment. These prisoners, you know they’re not there for traffic violations. If they’re in cellblock 1-A or 1-B, these prisoners, they’re murderers, they’re terrorists, they’re insurgents. Many of them probably have American blood on their hands and here we’re so concerned about the treatment of those individuals” (Sen. James Inhofe, May 11, 2004).
    Three days later:
US forces have begun to release hundreds of prisoners due to be freed from Iraq’s infamous Abu Ghraib jail, the centre of an abuse scandal. The first busload of 315 prisoners has left the complex, west of Baghdad, and passed about 100 people waiting outside without stopping. The deputy director of US military operations, Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, announced on Wednesday that 315 prisoners would be released today, with another release set for next week (ABC News, May 14, 2004).
Hundreds of these inmates were not even up to the level of traffic violators. Go figure. And way to win the hearts and minds of the nation our troops were sent to liberate.

  20. Thank you mobi chomsky-
Nothing wrong with suspecting wrongdoing or opposing U.S. actions, but for you to think its more likely Americans murdered berg, without any real evidence, shows that you are not trying to improve America or fix its faults, but rather you are quick to blame it, and will always try to find faults with Americas actions.
Your position in this case (that it was more likely America who killed berg), isnt that of the avg liberal in the U.S., but that of arab street, and European radicals, who admit to hating america. Dont you find it odd that a “true patriot” such as yourself ALWAYS seems to be an agreement with than those foreigners who admit to hating the U.S? Dont you think that if you really supported the U.S. you find yourself disagreeing with those who hate the U.S., at least sometimes?
For you to constantly come out here parroting the view of American hating foreigners, while calling yourself a patriot is truly absurd.
Just keep on trying finding fault with everything America does, and keep on using lines like ” ah this great gullible nation”, so readers can see how much disdain you have for the U.S.
Any arab terrorist organization’s website would gladly put up your comment about the berg killing. Dont you find that disturbing?

  21. There hits a point where criticizing the U.S. becomes so absurd and extreme that the person who said them can no longer reasonably claim to love his country. Your comments about berg far surpass that point.

  22. what does “loving your country” mean to you? if it means supporting whatever you government decides, then that may be the case. but if it means loving the principles your country stands for, then there’s no contradiction. for example, you might get angry and fight with a friend you think is making a serious life mistake, but if it was some stranger, you’d likely not even bother. loving america and its ideals and expecting the worst from my government, who i have come to know from my own experience living here for 25 years, are not asynchronous. again, i am inclined to be suspicious of our government because our government has given me more than ample reason to do so. it means i love america so much, i can’t bear to see her like this.
further, should the truth (or the possibility thereof) be suppressed because our enemies might skew it to fit their agendas? i think not. the more open and honest we are as american citizens, the less qualms our enemies will have with us as individuals, and the more likely they are to recognize that we are grappling with the very issues here ourselves that have them so riled up, and thus we can not be held accountable as citizens for the actions of these “cabals” the federalists spoke of who have hijacked our government.
funny, i quoted libertarian sources including thomas paine, george washington, the federalist papers, and an editor from reason magazine, and you called me mobius chomsky–implying that i am a communist.
look who’s talking about absurd and extreme.

  23. moby: heres some other causes you might want to join: a) jews caused 9/11; b)jews suck out blood of christian children and use them for matzo; c)jews run world via protocalls of zion;d)jews behind assasination of jfk; e)jews caused aids to kill arabs. moby, you are the intellectual equal of every kkk site, every al queda site, every plo site. you are no longer worthy of response. i pity poor israel who will soon have to bear your idiocy.

  24. necknose, im no longer making arguments: moby isnt worthy of discussion; i dont debate with david duke….or lousis farrakam….or moby. i might point out theyre ideological scum, but they are unworthy of debate.

  25. i haven’t seen avi find anyone “worthy of debate”, because he uses these logical fallacies in all his comments. clearly we haven’t yet seen avi in his full debating power, because he doesn’t think it’s worth it.

  26. avi, Jimbo,
Think about it. You guys are accusing someone of something very close to treason for merely stating a supposition. Further, as you do so, you even put flag-waving conservative leaders on shaky ground….
“I cannot support this military action in the Persian Gulf at this time. Both the timing and the policy are subject to question” (Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, Dec 16, 1998).

“If I have spoken out strongly about Kosovo, it’s because first and foremost our strategy and tactics for the conflict were so badly misconceived that they have made a tragic and dangerous situation even worse. Moreover, I believe Kosovo is yet another failure in what I believe has been the generally inept foreign policy of the Clinton administration, a foreign policy that has badly injured our nation’s stature and influence abroad.” – Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) at news conference, May 20, 1999.
“They [Serbian ground forces] don’t need new fuel supplies. They don’t need new food supplies. The bombing is having no military effect.”– Sen. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.) in the Chicago Tribune, April 18, 1999.
“The challenge of just using air power is that you leave it in the hands of your adversary to decide when he’s been punished enough. … So the initiative will remain with President Milosevic.”– Colin Powell, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to reporters, April 4, 1999.
“It seems that U.S., NATO, they’re not willing to hear much of anything except bomb, bomb, bomb. And while bombing has changed the landscape, bombing has not stopped the ethnic expulsion … We thought it would be a one-week war. It’s now eight weeks and growing.”– Jesse L. Jackson on Fox News Network, May 27, 1999.
“You are aware that there has been a congressional delegation meeting with some Russians, and that they’re working on the outline of what could lead to a settlement, where the bombing would stop and the Kosovars could go back in. I think, as Jesse Jackson would say, give peace a chance here.”– Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) on CNN’s “Late Edition,” May 2, 1999.

  27. Today the Boston Globe published an explanation about the “rape” photo flap the newspaper was caught in when it published images purported by a Boston councilman to be of U.S. troops gang-raping Iraqi women. The accompanying story failed to confirm or deny the legitimacy of the images.
The Globe column by ombudsman Chris Chinlund claims the newspaper giant has still failed to discover the source of the photos and cannot confirm or deny their legitimacy to readers. As previously reported by WND, the photos are fake and were produced by a group called Extreme Traffic. The website “Sex in War” was built around the Extreme Traffic “rape” content. Select photos also were carried by another site, Iraqbabes.com, and the Hard Rape site, but all images were derived from “Sex in War.”
Ombudsman Chinlund’s explanation focused almost exclusively on the problem of the graphic nature of the content, and she still apparently refuses to admit the photos came from a porn site. In this way, the statement seemed to function partly as a distraction from the core issue: that the Globe was duped into running porn images despite their mighty investigative resources.

  28. I don’t often get scoops on this site [roger simon] but I have one today. The following events … light years beyond what you have seen from our troops in Abu Ghraib… are now in the hands of the new Arab-language Television network Alhurra. They are videotapes and, in one grisly case, photographs. These are all acts performed by Saddam’s soldiers and police in uniform. I am not sure what Al Ahurra will broadcast, but they will be culled from among the following. I am told that when their people saw these tapes, they were unable to watch them. I can understand why. It is hard for me to type them.
First, the photographs. They are of actual live castrations of Kurds.
    Now, the video tapes:
Two beheadings, during one of which “Happy Birthday, Saddam” is being sung in Arabic.
Fingers being cut off one by one from a hand tied to a board.
People being thrown off four-story buildings, one forced to wear a Superman costume.
    A man scourged ninety-nine times.
Three different instances of gas poisonings (probably employing different types), including dead babies

  29. May 14, 2004 [ny post]– THE murder of Nick Berg, a 26-year-old American businessman, by a group of Islamist terrorists in Iraq continues to send shock waves through much of the West. What has impressed most people is the fact that the terrorists cut Mr. Berg’s head in the way that sheep are beheaded at the annual Feast of the Sacrifice.
Berg is, of course, not the first to be murdered in such a gruesome manner. Nor, alas, is he likely to be the last. For the cutting of heads (in Arabic, qata al-raas) has been the favorite form of Islamist execution for more than 14 centuries.
In the famous battles of early Islam, with the Prophet personally in command of the army of believers, the heads of enemy generals and soldiers were often cut off and put on sticks to be shown around villages and towns as a warning to potential adversaries.

  30. [nypost, may 14, 2004] One Algerian specialist in slitting throats and cutting off heads was known as Momo le Nain (Muhammad the Midget). He was a 20-plus-year-old butcher’s apprentice recruited by the GIA for the purpose of cutting off people’s heads. In 1996 in Ben-Talha, a suburb of the capital Algiers, Momo cut off a record 86 heads in one night, including the heads of more than a dozen children.
In recognition of his exemplary act of piety, the GIA sent him to Mecca for pilgrimage. Last time we checked, Momo was still at large somewhere in Algeria.

  31. By Arnon Regular, Haaretz Correspondent, and Agencies [may 15, 2004]
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat on Saturday called on his people to “terrorize your enemy” as he bitterly marked the 56th anniversary of the “Nakba” – an Arabic word meaning catastrophe, used to describe the creation of the State of Israel.
In a speech broadcast live on Palestinian television, Arafat repeatedly called on his people to be steadfast in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.
“Our nation is patient and determined,” he said, “which sacrificed its body to defend itself, which was laid bare by the Nakba carried out the international, Zionist and imperialist power, which didn’t have the right to allow [the creation of Israel], for those who didn’t have the right [the Zionists]. [but keep on believing that evacuation of the west bank and gaza will satisfy those murderers]

  32. Seems Avi’s not shomer Shabbos, eh?
Avi, if what Mobius said is so bad, maybe you should take a look at some of the discussion over at Free Republic:
Nick Berg had “coincidental” link to Moussoui
Parents blame Bush for son’s execution
WHY WAS NICK BERG IN IRAQ ?????
These ultra-right wingers not only theorize such conspiracies, but they also take a giant dump on Berg’s grave.
Interestingly, these are the same sorta folks who tried to ruin Marcos Zuniga’s career when he posted about his lack of empathy for US-hired mercenaries killed in action in Iraq to his website, Daily Kos. “Selective application of morality” anyone?

  33. hey, dont read the free republic, dont read counterpunch, dont read moby eg dont read anyone who gets their news from alien transmissions through their gold fillings. and, not shommer shobbos, but trying to become more observant.

  34. [For those in love with noam chomsky, a dershkowitz article (site at end) disclosing Chomsky supports holocust deniers. this is the intellectual leader of the left in action (when hes not leading divestiture efforts]:
My next encounter with Chomsky revolved around his writing an introduction to a book by an anti-Semite named Robert Faurisson who denied that the Holocaust took place, that Hitler’s gas chambers existed, that the diary of Anne Frank was authentic, and that there were death camps in Nazi occupied Europe. He claimed that the “massive lie” about genocide was a deliberate concoction initiated by “American Zionists” “and that “the Jews” were responsible for World War II. Chomsky described these and other conclusions as “findings” and said that they were based on “extensive historical research.” He also wrote that “I see no anti-Semitic implication in the denial of the existence in gas chambers or even in the denial of the Holocaust.” He said he saw “no hint of anti-Semitic implications in Faurisson’s work,” including his claim that “the Jews” were responsible for World War II. He wrote an introduction to one of Faurisson’s book which was used to market his anti-Semitic lies.

I never said one should not oppose his governments actions, but as I wrote above, There hits a point where criticizing the U.S. becomes so absurd and extreme that the person who said them can no longer reasonably claim to love his country. Mobis comments about berg far surpass that point.
And its not even as if mobi had any proof for his conclusion, but when you hate something, you look to find fault with it.
Mobi- You too did not read my post carefully. Read my comments i just wrote for zion.
I always hear liberals say they love the principals this country stands for? WHat exactly does this mean? We know its not our actions they love, we know its not our people, and we know its not our constitution or the views of our founding fathers so what is it? Most liberals believe in seeking judicial activism rather, than having state residents vote on matters or allowing democratically elected officials deciding laws (see Affirmative action, gay marriage). Most liberals also believe in the “living constitution”, where an non-elected body of 9 changes our constitution as they see fit (i can give you lists of cases, but im sure you dont care). So in short, you dont like the people who live in this country (“ah, this great gullible nation), our actions, our leaders, our constitution, our democracy. You are quick to blame the U.S. for everything, and always assume we are the badguys.
So i have two questions (one from the my last comment that you ignored)
1)other than a few snappy sounding catch phrases from our founding fathers, what principals of our country do you love? The only thing you seem to enjoy about this country is the freedom to bash your own country every other second.
    2) Do your views on the U.S. differ in any material way from Europeans who admit to hating America (other than of course, them admitting to hating the country, and you not). ANd if so How?
Btw, i would hate being friends with you, If you treat your friends like you do your country (as per your example). You are most probably criticize them every time they breath, blame them for everyhitng that ever goes wrong, suspect that they are lying about everything they ever say, and even assume, without any evidence, that they are more likely than your enemy to kill fellow friends.
