I’m sorry but I think this story on Watchblog is a crock, with regards to the claim that Nader is an anti-semite
I don’t see what’s anti-semitic about what Nader says at all. It’s like hmm.. $10 billion in loan guanatees to Israel last year alone, not including the usual several billion in grants, and if Nader says Israelis and American Jews have something to do with that, it’s an antisemitic canard ??
The article seems to not be able to prove Nader is an anti-semite convincingly so it tries to tar him by association with Pat Buchanan and Republicans
We can agree with Pat Buchanan that Bush sucks without accepting any of his other views

Alright, I admit I stopped reading when he talked about crypto-fascist cults, and I’m not really familiar with WatchBlog’s politics. But just because this guy is crazy doesn’t mean he’s completely wrong. I think Buchannan is definitely an antisemite, and his party has some strong racist ideologies (protectionism, isolationism, xenophobia).
Nader’s “puppet” rhetoric echo’s a bit to strongly some of the old antisemitic ideas of the Jews in the shadows running government. While there’s nothing wrong with him going for the Muslim vote, or for the xenophobe vote, but the two seem mutually exclusive.

Yes as a matter of fact, I do notice a pattern among lefists..
The pattern is that many right wingers can’t argue with them based on facts so they depend on the old propaganda tools of Ad Hominem attacks, or a made up quotes, or trying to make them seem guilty by association instead.
“Oh, he’s been tied to Pat Buchanan” Well realize it or not, Pat Buchanan may well be nuts, but isn’t just some random nutball. He was one of Nixon’s speech writers. This guy worked in the whitehouse for years. Supposedly legitimate TV networks give him air time regularly. Therefore tons of people have had some tie to him or another.
hey babylonia, no generalities, dude: do you deny the accuracy of the chomsky quotes? (glad to give you cites); is it ad hominmen to attack someone personally for their own antisemetic statements? i guess so, but so what? guilty by association? if several individuals are antisemites (as their own statements would indicate in the case of nader, chomsky) why not associate them? look forward to your considered response.

I’ve listened to Chomsky speak extensively, and I really don’t believe he:
1) denies the holocaust in any way
2) thinks of Jews as being less equal than any other people
3) dislikes Jews
4) hates his Jewishness
he’s a Hebrew scholar, still reads a lot in Hebrew. He’s cool with who he is. I also don’t believe for a minute that Ralph Nader is anti-semitic either.

This isn’t so much an ad hominem as a gross summarization of Paul Berman’s critique of Chomsky’s political philosophy provided in “Terror and Liberalism”. It’s really an excellent book and I highly recommend it. Sorry I let it go unreferenced but i didn’t know JewSchool was so rigorous when it came to providing sources.
