Mutual Recognition and the Path of Reconciliation

Via israelblog.com, I found out about an article by Professor Baruch Kimmerling of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem called The Two Catastrophes. In the article – which was adapted from a keynote speech given at the annual conference of the Israeli Anthropological Association in 1999 – Kimmerling explains that both sides of the Palestine-Israel Conflict have been marked by inconceivable tragedy. He then proceeds to make a case for the idea that the first step toward moving beyond the past is understanding each other’s memories.
