Netanyahu Resigns Over Pullout

After talking endless smack since Sharon announced his plans to withdrawl from Gaza, Bibi’s finally put his money where is mouth is:

In a surprise move, Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quit his post and appeared before the cameras to explain himself.
According to Netanyahu, “For months I have been torn. On the one hand, I adamantly opposed unilateral withdrawal, and I also see the predictions I warned about taken place. Gaza is become a center and base for Islamic terror.”
Hamas, he said, is getting strong and taking credit for what is seen as an Israeli flight.
“In addition, we hear Abu Ala (Ahmed Qureia) announcing that this is just the first step until they reach Jerusalem, and terrorists say that this is just the first step. Security sources say that, in the medium-term, terror will increase,” Netanyahu added.
He added, “I know nothing will help, Sharon has an automatic majority, both in the Knesset and in the government who oppose the principles on which they were elected. This is not the government I entered. This is a different government.”

YESHA’s joy was abrupted by the Israeli cabinet’s vote to begin disengagement, 17-5. The left sighed with relief.

  1. So what if he wore a Palestinian headress. Is being nice to Palestinians automatically anti-israeli and there fore antijewish? Even if the headress says in arabic that Jerusalem is theirs this blown out of proportion since everyone knows the Palestinain state will probably include East Jerusalem. The only people who would take offence are the “Greater Israel” crowd.

  2. Bibi is so full of it- he himself voted for it the last time around.
The right and the left – they are all the same.
    Only Kahane is different.

  3. Bibi said stuff like he wanted a clean conscious, but frankly, him, the likud, the mafdal, the haredim, and the national union all had a hand in having this evil expulsion plan get off the ground and get so far.
On the other hand, better late than never to wake up. There is a chance for all of you to wake up ASAP, because soon the plan will be cancelled and history, proven evil and immoral, and the ‘supporters’ will not be able to defend themselves and their spite of the land of Israel.
Bibi’s resignation won’t lead directly to cancelling the plan, but it certainly is another nail in that coffin.

  4. Top 10 Ways Jews Can Retaliate Against Presbyterian Divestment in Israel
    by Jake Novak
    10) Begin counter-boycott of Hellmann’s Mayonnaise and Wonder Bread
    9) Stop supporting all the Presbyterian comedians… oh wait, there aren’t any!
    8) Wear white shoes after Labor Day
    7) Stop serving watercress sandwiches at Shabbat Kiddush
    6) Replace Muzak in Jewish doctor’s offices with Klezmer CD’s
    5) Secretly replace all references to John Calvin in Presbyterian doctrine with “Calvin Klein”
    4) Initiate hostile takeover of L.L. Bean
    3) Crash the next party at the country club
    2) Water down the booze in junior’s sippy cup
    1) Let them do their own damn taxes!
The “Top 10” above was published in my Jewish Week column last month (May, 2005). And I did get some hate mail for it. Of course, I shrugged it off because if anyone doesn’t see the humor in a church group that said nothing during the Holocaust deciding it can make moral pronouncements against Jews anywhere… than I don’t see where you’re going to see it. I’m no fan of moral relativisim, but if you’re going to bash another group moral activities, check your own balance sheet first.

  5. This is why people don’t like the comments section. Josh– what are you going to do if your predictions don’t come true? wow, i actually pity you.

  6. “Only Kahane is [sic] different.”
Kahane was the only one who told it like it was. instead of sucking up to the US or caring about ‘world pressure’, he cared about the Jewish people first. an arab transfer will ONLY bring peace.
    With the love of Israel

  7. I don’t see too much commentary on the fact that Bibi merely said he doesn’t like the way the retreat is being carried out unilaterally, not that he’s against it. Hes also flying to the states today/morrow, so he won’t be around when the crap hits the fan next Monday.
It seems that Bibi wants to let Sharon carry out this retreat, or botch it up and have the world on his back and then he’ll come in to pick up the pieces.
Ronen, what happens if there isn’t any retreat? I already know that the world ain’t gonna like that the Jew is refusing to obey orders again.
Don’t pity me at all. I know perfectly well that retreat/expulsion or no retreat/expulsion, Israel is in serious danger. The final war will be on Jerusalem. Better to get to that point from a position of strength than from being pushed their retreat after retreat after retreat.
I already know. The ‘settlers’ will be responsible for all of Israel’s problems.
