Michelle Malkin Hearts Nazis

Right-wing blogger, columnist and Fox News analyst Michelle Malkin has recently been going to bat for the Minuteman Project, a self-described “citizens’ Neighborhood Watch on our border,” which has conferred itself with the authority to secure the US’s southern border from infiltration by illegal immigrants. Well-known to be overrun by White separatists, Klansmen and Neo-Nazis — as is thoroughly documented in photographs and testimony — one of the organization’s members, James Chase, founder of California Border Watch, broke ranks with The Minutemen earlier this year citing its domination by racist extremists.
Malkin has consistently promoted and defended the Minutemen on her blog and in the press, in her most recent offense referring to Mexican American critics of the Minutemen, including Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and California Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante, as “Latino supremacists”. In a column published last Wednesday, Malkin accused the Chicano community of plotting to liberate “Mexican lands” in the Southwestern United States.
Alex Koppelman at dragonfire reports,

“Aztlan is a long-held notion among Mexico’s intellectual elite and political class,” Malkin wrote in her column Wednesday, “which asserts that the American southwest rightly belongs to Mexico. Advocates believe the reclamation (or reconquista) of Aztlan will occur through sheer demographic force. If the rallies across the country are any indication, reconquista is already complete.”
You might expect Malkin to give her readers some evidence that Aztlan really is “a long-held notion among Mexico’s intellectual elite and political class,” but she never does.
Why? Because Aztlan and reconquista these days aren’t, for the most part, ideas held by Mexicans: they’re ideas held by white supremacists and neo-Nazis. The myth of reconquista stems from a misreading of one of the founding documents of the Chicano movement, “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan.”
In much the same way that the Black Power movement meant the words “Black Power” in a metaphorical sense, that is, as a call to African-Americans to recognize after years of being stigmatized that they too were people with something to contribute to society, “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan” was an appeal to nationalism as a means to achieve a greater self-awareness and self-esteem.
But that’s not the way some white supremacists, fearful of a brown mass ready to take over the United States, has interpreted it.

Considering that the White supremacists at the Minuteman Project are the source from which Malkin’s getting her information, it’s no suprise she’s echoing this slander throughout the blogosphere. A star blogger with Pajamas Media, the prominent right-wing blogging collective launched by Little Green Football’s Charles Johnson, which counts among its members such noteable JBlogs as Israellycool, An Unsealed Room and Kesher Talk, she is also a regular contributor to The Jewish World Review, which published her most recent column.

  1. Whenever I read something by reactionary, borderline personalities such as Malkin or Ann Coulter (especially when they’re women, as I’m old and foolish enough to still believe that they should be more compassionate than men), I always think, “What must their parents be like?” If she were my daughter, I’d be mortified; I’d leave town and change my name.
But, then, I think that about Bush’s parents, too.

  2. It’s similar to mini version of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Protocols of the Elders of Mexico doesn’t have the same catchy ring, though.
Just like Malkin is like a little, mini version of Ann Coulter.

  3. Yeah, she is like Ann Coulter. This upsets me terribly. I understand it when a man behaves like a reactionary, regressive lunatic. I don’t approve, but I understand it. I never really get it, though, when a woman behaves that way. It’s entirely non-pc of me, but I think that a woman should be more gracious than that. It isn’t that I think that a woman can’t be as big an asshole as a man – I just think that she should choose not to be.
Moby, I’ve only looked at Jewish World Review once in a blue moon, but I went over there this morning because of your link, and I noticed that they also carry Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and others, and in the company of people like Ann Coulter and David Limbaugh. I don’t know what happened to us. Perhaps, collectively, we became too affluent. Of course, that doesn’t explain the nut job Haredim in Israel who tell people that they’ll go to Gehinnom for voting against them. I’m 49, and, I think, considerably older than most of the people who post here. I’m old enough to remember when almost all Jews were liberal Democrats (and, when I was a kid, there were even a few card-carrying Socialists still around!). We’d had Louis Brandeis and Felix Frankfurter on the Supreme Court. Kissinger was considered to be an anomaly, almost an embarrassment. Now, we have Ari Gross in the White House. Michael Medved and Daniel Lapin can’t kiss up enough to the Christian Right. And, of course – Abramoff. I’m absolutely beside myself. I really am about ready to give up on the Jewish people.

  4. Cipher I don’t think what your seeing reflects the Jewish people. The overwhelming majorty, 81% voted for Kerry. This is a media thing. The media is more dominated by corporations, and thus the wealthy than it ever was in the past, as a consequence the entire media has shifted to the right. Same gotes for the Washington political establishment. I don’t know why big capital thinks it is in there interest to have ethnic strife, fundamentalism and ignorance, takeover the US, and the entire rest of the planet, but it does.

  5. Its true about the Latin Supremists. They are called MeCha. I used to work for Aish Hatorah doing Hasbara and travelling around the country speaking about Israel. In the south west US and California, one of the largest groups on campus was this MeCha group which was virulently anti-Israel. It was strange that at a cali campus the pro-palestinian group had maybe only 4 or 5 members but anti-israel rallies would get hundreds of attendents, mostly latin students affiliated with MeCha. After speaking with the Pro-Israel students they told me that MeCha and Palestinian groups worked together because they both believed there lands were illegally occupied by Imperialists. They also both believed in one day freeing there lands and taking back possession. Mecha exists on every campus in California and most of the south west and every time I visit and speak to students, they tell me MeCha is becoming more radical each semester. Anyway I had a chance to do some research on there groups philosophy and it all true. I’ve also had a chance to speak with multipel members of th”e group on many different campus’s. They basically believe they are a divine sun people called “La Raza.” They also believe in a mythical land that is there’s called Atzetlan consisting of all of California and South West United States including Mexico. There goal is to take back this land for Mexico and the Hispanic People. They want to re-unite Atzetlan and form a new worl Hispanic empire. Its like Jihad but for Hispanics…. you may think this is a big joke, but on campus’s in Cali MeCha is usually one of the largest Students Groups with hundreds of active and very radical members. Anyway thats the real deal on there agenda from the street.

  6. They basically believe they are a divine sun people called “La Raza.”
Is that anything like believing in being part of a people ‘chosen by god’?

  7. “american badasses” – ha! ask their girlfriends and you’ll find out why they’re really called the minutemen.
i consider this ad hominem attack sufficient for my contribution to the debate at this time.

  8. Dameocrat – I hope that you’re right. I don’t know. It hasn’t been my subjective experience. Virtually all of the high-profile Jews, in all arenas, were liberals and progressives. That isn’t the case any longer. I mean, I look at Joe Lieberman – he’s what passes today for a liberal Jewish politician, and he hangs out with Bill Bennett, for God’s sake! Somehow, we seem to have gotten swept up in this global, fear-based shift to the right. I don’t entertain a lot of triumphalist notions about the Jewish people, but I think that Dan and some of the others here would probably say that the Jews are meant to bring the light of HaShem into the world, or some such thing. We ain’t doing it.
David – IF this is true (and I reserve judgment), it doesn’t garner credibility when the messenger is a mean-spirited lunatic (I mean Malkin, not you!).

  9. cipher:
I don’t disagree. I was just taking the piss, as I tend to invest minimum passion in blog comment thread debates.
I just find that many of these whackjobs I read about are at about the same level of whackjobbyness as those within the jewish community.

  10. “Just like Malkin is like a little, mini version of Ann Coulter. ”
“Yeah, she is like Ann Coulter.”
You people either haven’t ever read coulter or malkin, or perhaps both. They are nothing alike. In fact, i cant think of another 2 conservative commentators/pundits who are more different than malkin and culture.

  11. “In fact, i cant think of another 2 conservative commentators/pundits who are more different than malkin and culture”
Do you mean “Malkin in Coulter”? In any case, Tucker Carlson and Coulter (or Malkin) immediately spring to mind as being vastly different. Chris Matthews as well and Coulter/Malkin.
And, yes, I have read both. Both are hate-spewing dragons who rely on their readers ethnocentric, socio-economic, and political insecurities to warp their arguments. The biggest difference is Coulter’s use of polemics for humour whereas Malkin is dry as a bone. I guess another big difference is that Michelle Malkin hasn’t called for the assassination of politicians and Supreme Court judges with whom she disagrees (unlike Coulter) …yet.

  12. I dunno — both female conservative pundits? Check. Both freqent writers of digression-filled rant-columns that fail to connect opening and closing thoughts? Check. Both supporters of movements that would prefer to send them either back to the kitchen or back to the Phillippines? Check.
    I think we’ve got a match here.

  13. would you say that kahanism is representative of the views of all jews, or that of a fringe minority? the southern poverty law center says that group is so tiny they hardly matter. taking information from one hate group’s website to paint an entire people in a negative light is a severe injustice.

  14. the southern poverty law center says that group is so tiny they hardly matter.
Their sort of thinking and rheoric has evidently leaked into certain Mecha chapters and events from time to time. The real question would be how prevalent the thnking is. The SPLC may not be the last word on this subject. Put it down as a subject for futher research.

  15. Hi guys,
Just got here via BlogDex. So far no one has contacted me about my affiliation with PJ Media. BTW Roger Simon and Charles Johnson, founder of PJ, are both mainstream liberals on domestic issues, hawks on foreign policy. Which makes us rabid rightwingers in your view. You might want to get out more, there are a lot of us. Show some imagination: American politics is a spectrum, not a polarity.
I also notice a number of these posts are ignoring the Soloveitchik quote below.
When I see Jews defending Mecha and Atzlan, I see we have learned nothing since WWII.

  16. Here’s one Jew who appreciates Michelle Malkin. She doesn’t rant – she gets the facts and expresses her point of view. You want a rant? Try Debbie Schlussel.
