  1. It is pretty horrifying.
“THEN LIKE A SCENE OUT OF THE DAWN OF THE DEAD, THOUSANDS OF MONGOLOID LOOKING COKE BOTTLE EYEGLASS WEARING BEARDS DESCEND ON THE UNSUSPECTING PO’S. POKING AND GRABBING AND ATTEMPTING TO FREE THE OLD HASID WHO JUST DIDN’T LIKE TO OBEY THE LAW !!!”
Dawn of the Dead reference? Good. The rest, though? A bit over the top. Aren’t there any officers sympathetic? They even drag up the Crown Heights riot on the board as another example of “distasteful hasidim.”

  2. I read more on that site earlier in the day… it’s pretty disgusting. I love how they try to defend being wretches by being “stressed.”
I do so love it when people rationalize behaving like “animals.”

  3. I would say that their comments are not far off from how most Jews think of Hasidim. Ever hear an Israeli talk about them? Far more vicious than the NYPD.

  4. its not like positive attitudes towards non-jews, people of color, and non-hasidim in general are pouring out of most hasidic sects. it can’t be surpirising that there is mutual discomfort.

  5. Calling other people ‘animals’ whether done by secular Israelis, Hassids, Cops – bleah its all wrong. ‘Nobody’s perfect” is not an excuse. Pirke Avot says B’makom s’ain anashim histadel l’hot aish – in a place where there are no humans, strive to be human.
With the police its all the more terrifying because of the power they wield.
PS props to Mobius for the Solveichik quote on the comments window.

That’s not the point. I will criticize racism and religious prejudice when it comes from my fellow Jews, but I will also criticize anti-Semitism where I find it. One doesn’t justify the other, in either direction. And as Simon said, it’s all the more frightening when it comes from cops.
