Happily Ever After? Media Mishegaas

Tip of the hat to The Nation blogger Ari Berman for posting about the Bush Administration’s offer to Fox News host Tony Show for a press secretary job:

    Fair & Balanced White House?
Finally, total synchronicity. Fox News and the White House are merging into one entity. Well, not really.
CNN just reported that a few weeks ago new White House chief of staff Josh Bolten asked Fox News’s Tony Snow if he would be interested in replacing Scott McClellan as White House press secretary. CNN did not report whether Snow responded affirmatively and Snow refused to comment publicly. Funny how his website boasts of “The Power of Fox. The Connections of Snow.”
This causes us to think of other potential White House hires:
Lou Dobbs as head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement?
Geraldo Rivera as Secretary of Defense?
Bill O’Reilly as director of Faith-Based Initiatives?
Why not call it a day and hire Roger Ailes as communications director?

More on Snow here
Should we call this marriage? Or a state union? It’s definitely not civil, but could pass as a church union–hell why not.
And people wonder why I don’t believe in state-sanctioned marriage.

  1. Regardless of whether Snow works for Dubya, he’s already a clear part of the Republican apparatus. The Wikipedia article to which Cole linkns mentions that he worked for George HW Bush. I erpsonally seem to remember that he worked for Newt Gingrich, too–am I making that up?
Of course, the right could easily assert that it’s inappropriate for George Stephanopolous to be on whatever network he’s on. But I do thinkt hat Fox shows a clearer right-wing bias than and other major network shows a liberal (let along left-wing) bias.

  2. I fail to see the problem with hiring a reporter for press secretary (provided, of course, that the reporter quits his/her media job). It’s not uncommon.
Would you get as upset if a Democratic president hired someone from CNN?
