Nasrallah: Anti-Jew or Anti-Israel?

You might think that Hezbollah’s leader is anti-Israel.
Among other things, he was quoted in 2002 as saying: “If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew. Notice, I do not say the Israeli.”
He makes it a point to distinguish: he is not insulting Israelis, but Jews.
Then why are references to Jews conspicuously left out when he speaks on Al-Jazeera? An example.
Is anti-Semitism sufficiently out of vogue on the world arena that it would warrant a PR-induced edit? Or is Nasrallah editing himself for America, which would be a moot point considering that he is in cahoots with Iran and Syria? What would cause Nasrallah to stop his anti-Jewish vitriol?
Unless, as was stated before, perhaps this is just another example of things left out of the mainstream media? I ask the information question (ba’ei Y-Love) — what exactly ARE the two sides in this current war?

  1. I think the guy is against the zionism that has murdered so many innocent people in the middle East.
Imputing an irrational hatred–a la the Nazis or European anti-semitis–decontextualizes the Hezbollah struggle, the roots of the movement.

  2. Uh, Sidney, Nasrallah was quoted on NPR the other day as stating that it would be great if the Jews of the world would just gather in Israel so that it’ll be easier to destroy them all.

  3. I am not against Jews, some of my best friends are jews, but what infuriates me was one guy who wrote in our daily paper:- He said that Israel is not responsible for those deaths and it is not massacaring innocent children. He said that Lebanon harbours terrorists and it is those terrorists they are killing(as if by large scale bombarding all terrorists will die). Tell me, u people seem learned, are all lebenese classified from heaven as terrorists? Terrorists lurk in every corner of the world,it would be a good idea of Israel to come together with USA and destroy the whole world.Except of course, usa, and Israel.
USA said they are on a war against terror,on repeated incidents after 9-11.At Iraq they were the biggest terrorists, and where is their “Weapons of Mass destruction”? They did the most destruction then.
Now Israel is terrorising Lebenon.Even after false promises of cease-fire, they continue to be terrorists.
Whatever differences Israel had with Nasrallah, they must sort it out peacefully ,or go to the UN. They must not behave like deranged, heartless maniacs who just want to massacre little kids,in the name of war against terrorism.
I repeat, this is not against jews, or christians, this is against terrorism.

  4. Ric Flair, you want to know the difference – Israel does not talk about slaughtering Palestinians or Lebanese – if they wanted they could kill as many as there are – but Hamas does talk about (and practice) the purposeful killing of Israeli civilians and Hezbollah, takes it a step further and says that their battle is not over while there exists a single living Jew in the world. While Israel apologizes for civilian casualties, Hezbollah targets civilians.
