almost a jewfork (but not quite)

The Shondes, everybody’s favorite queerjewcore pop princexes (is that the gender-all-inclusive form of monarchy? let’s just pretend so) are putting on a bash in a few saturday nights in NYC. (and word on the DL is, they might show their faces in the Midwest this winter…so, Chicago, sit tight…) And if that doesn’t draw you out, they’re playing with Joe Lally, erstwhile bassist for Fugazi, whose new solo work (live, he’s usually accompanied by Justin Destroyer, a.k.a. Edie Sedgwick) is understated and powerful…

  1. damn matthue. I didn’t know you got down like this. I thought you held by the occupation, or at least R’ Kook or something.
Does sound like a fun show. Lit lounge = real.

  2. I took a look at their website-
    http://www.jatonyc.org/
I’m not sure which is my favorite part: the “apartheid” wall? Demanding aid to Israel be stopped? Maybe calling for a Palestinian return? There’s a lot more than opposition to “occupation” going on here.
Anyone considering attending this event should be clear about what they’d be supporting.

  3. hella good points. and, just to make this clear, i *don’t* support ending the occupation — or calling it an occupation in the first place.
but the shondes are a good bunch of people, and joe lally is one of my heroes. which are all irrelevant next to the fact that i support JS as an open forum for stuff to be said and points to be made….yeah, i thought twice before posting this. actually, i thought more than a few times.
but this is what i came up with, and this is what i posted.
and, fuckin’ israel forever. and let the settlers live.
    selah.

  4. i jsut want to point out that latkes, if made correctly, are intrinsically vegan. ew, dairy latkes? no thanks. i’ll leave the dairy to the sour cream toppings…
