ADL Bitchslaps Prager

Dennis Prager’s argument that Representative-Elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, should not be permitted to take his oath of office on a Koran is, intolerant, misinformed and downright un-American.
Prager is flat-out wrong when he asserts that Representative Ellison’s use of a Koran would be “damaging to the fabric of American civilization.” To the contrary, the U.S. Constitution guarantees that, “no religious test shall ever be required” to hold public office in America. Members of Congress, like all Americans, should be free to observe their own religious practices without government interference or coercion.

  1. Cant you leave the guy alone? So he said some stupid shit (arguably). Are you goin to take every single article on this controversy and feature it as another post?
    MoveOn.Jew

  2. Nope I think we should point out the stupid things our people say because, guess what…everything this jackass says will be used to say “Jews don’t think Muslims should study the Koran because it is un-American.” Not just Prager. It is a shame that one person will rep for the entire community, but that is reality.
When they came for use no one stood up.

  3. Of course we cant leave him alone. Imagine the rabid jewish outcry if some liberal journalist decided that joe lieberman could not use a chumash for the same reasons prager says ellison cannot use the koran. There were at least 3 presidents who were affirmed via other books than the standard bible use, and there have been plenty of jews in congress who used their own versions of the bible as well. It amazes me how many of our jewish bretherren have spilled pages and pages of ink lamenting ellison instead of celebrating the most jews in legistlative office ever.

  4. Mobius, allow me to re-frame my question,
Jpost had an article the other day of yet another statement by Ahmenejihad that Israel will be wiped off the face of the earth etc.
Why is the Prager controversy more deserving of our attention and of Jewschool’s than this scumbag and what he wants to do to Israel? You could have updated the previous post, but it just seems like you are deliriously obssesed with his stupid piece? As the great Mel Brooks exclamed in Blazing Saddles (as an Indian chief): Loz em gayn!!

  5. there is more than a subtle difference between saying that zionism will be an insignificant page in history and that israel is going to get nuked.
and i will reiterate, as i did in my recent iranian nukes post, that he is pushing the buttons of people like you so that you’ll race headlong into a war israel is incapable of winning, with the end result and emboldened and universally adored iran.

Ahh, so – arguably – Prager’s obscene bigotry isn’t stupid shit. Moreover, Prager apparently feels no need to retract his statements or keep his mouth shut, but, still, Jewschool should simply stop paying attention to him. Instead, Jewschool should focus all of its attention on those incidents in which Jews are victims and objects of persecution. Or, perhaps, on such vitally important objects of conservative attention as Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan and Al Sharpton.
Also, am I mistaken, or has there been no lapse whatever in the sheer relentlessness of the coverage of Ahmenejihad’s desire to wipe Israel off the map? Is there any human on the Earth with the remotest interest in Jewish affairs that isn’t aware of that state of affairs?

  7. I noticed that arguable too, and wondered if this was really about how often Mobius posts about it. But count me in as thinking that the ADL’s statement is completely relevant–I’m glad that they’re standing up on this. Hopefully, the decision was a no-brainer for them.

Like all the little green footballers sis with John Kerry?

  9. Dennis Prager is a Republican pundit of the first order. His talk show is pure right wing demagoguery. And forget about his political views-his show is so full of disfluencies, I cannot for the life of me comprehend how he got a radio spot. He claims to be a Reform Jew, but claims the Torah was divinely ordained. I mean his rabid homophobic views may match many Reform Jews of my grandparents generation I(they are certainly rare for his own), but Reform rejected the divinity of the Torah at it’s FOUNDING. Apparently Prager doesn’t understand the concept. Of course Prager omits any Torah law that he doesn’t like anyway. He is completely wrong about Keith Ellison and swearing on the Koran, of course. His reverance for the New Testament is quite bizarre, indeed.
