Bush uses Congressional break to appoint RJC head to ambassadorship

That shit weasel!
The AP reports,

President Bush named Republican fundraiser [and head of the Republican Jewish Coalition] Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress, where Democrats had derailed Fox’s nomination.
The appointment, made while lawmakers were out of town on spring break, prompted angry rebukes from Democrats, who said Bush’s action may even be illegal.
[…] Recognizing Fox did not have the votes to obtain Senate confirmation in the Foreign Relations Committee, Bush withdrew the nomination last week. On Wednesday, with the Senate on a one-week break, the president used his power to make recess appointments to put Fox in the job without Senate confirmation.
This means Fox can remain ambassador until the end of the next session of Congress, effectively through the end of the Bush presidency.

  1. Your hatred of Bush is so great that you don’t care that he went out of his way to appoint a prominent Jew to a government post.
You’re liberals first and everything else second.
    Liberalism is your religion.

  2. why should i be proud that a prominent jew bought himself an ambassadorship by financing a smear campaign against a senator with a spotless pro-israel voting record?
how does this serve jewish communal interests?
and don’t get me started on where you can shove your childish strawmen.

  3. BZ, what are you talking about?
Feingold and Waxman are very far to the left, among American politicians. Feingold didn’t vote for “H.J. Res. 114” which 70% of Israelis supported. (and 90% of Jewish Israelis)
What did Feingold or Waxman do for Israel or Jews?
Please elaborate Mobius…… what are you talking about?

  4. “what are you talking about?”
if you’re going to attack me for decrying sam fox, at least know who the fuck sam fox is and why the congress and senate opposed his nomination.

  5. Adam-
Whoa whoa whoa, now it’s about what they’ve DONE?! But I thought all that mattered is that they’re prominent Jews! I am utterly shocked and astonished at your inconsistency.
It sounds to me like your hatred of Democrats is so great that you don’t care that prominent Jews are in government posts. You’re a conservative first and everything else second. Conservatism is your religion.
As for Sam Fox, he financed a smear campaign against Sen. John Kerry, a candidate whom 77% of Jewish voters supported.
(For those playing along at home, “H.J. Res. 114” was the 2002 bill to authorize the use of the US military in Iraq. Current polls show that 60% of respondents think the Iraq war was a mistake. Far left indeed.)

  6. Sam Fox donated money to the Swift Board Veterans, who served with John Kerry in Vietnam.
Almost everyone who served with Kerry was against him being elected president.

How is that a smear campaign?

  7. omg omg omg a random nobody congressman went to a dinner party and met the head of a sunni militant organization that’s funded by bush’s buddies, the saudi arabians. for shame, for shame, that’s infinitely worse than banking with wahaabists and financing terror operations across the middle east. clearly you have identified the greater of two evils — nancy pelosi in a hijab.
omg omg omg american political leaders are conducting foreign diplomacy by trying to smooth over a conflict that’s gotten way out of hand on the idiot prince’s watch. they’re meeting with -gasp- enemies of the united states and negotiating peaceful resolutions to our conflicts. my god! the traitors! clearly by not dropping nukes across the entire middle east, we’re compromising all that america stands for. our freedoms! my god our freedoms!
