In our mouths and in our hearts: Day 38

(Introduction.)
Today: Stealing is bad.
466. “When a fire is started and spreads to thorns, so that stacked, standing, or growing grain is consumed, the one who started the fire must make restitution.” (Exodus 22:5)
467. “You shall not steal.” (Leviticus 19:11)
468. “When a person steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, s/he shall pay five oxen for the ox, and four sheep for the sheep.” (Exodus 21:37)
469. “You shall have an honest balance, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin.” (Leviticus 19:36)
470. “You shall not falsify measures of length, weight, or capacity.” (Leviticus 19:35)
471. “You shall not have in your pouch alternate weights, larger and smaller.” (Deuteronomy 25:13) = don’t even own these weights, even if you’re not using them
472. “You shall not move your neighbor’s landmarks.” (Deuteronomy 19:14)
473. “You shall not steal.” (Exodus 20:13) = #467 was about stealing property, so this one is about stealing people; i.e., kidnapping
474. “You shall not commit robbery.” (Leviticus 19:13) = stealing by force
475. “You shall not defraud your fellow.” (Leviticus 19:13)
476. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female slave, or his ox or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.” (Exodus 20:14) = and attempting to acquire any of these
477. “You shall not crave your neighbor’s house, or his field, or his male or female slave, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.” (Deuteronomy 5:18) = even in the heart
478. “S/he shall return that which s/he got through robbery or fraud.” (Leviticus 5:23)
479. “You must not remain indifferent.” (Deuteronomy 22:3) = in regard to returning lost property (#480)
480. “If you see your fellow’s ox or sheep gone astray, do not ignore it; you must take it back to your fellow.” (Deuteronomy 22:1)

  1. Jewschool is like moshiach!
I hope, pray secretly expect that today – there will a miracle – that today i will see – with my eyes – the world a better place
but today becomes yesterday and my disapointment grows!
Jewschool – i hope and pray that today you might actually post something interesting – each day my hope turns to dispair
It’s just the same stuff as everyday – maybe if i stopped looking (here) then i might discover that life was actaully fab all along
and that Jewschool (like exile) was just a bad dream.

  2. Jewschool – i hope and pray that today you might actually post something interesting
Some Jewschool contributors don’t blog on Shabbat.
