New Excellent God Curriculum Online

A new book has recently been produced by the Zeigler School of Rabbinic Studies (where I’m a student) that provides a fairly comprehensive curriculum–complete with sources, study questions and essays about various issues–on the various views of God in (respectively) the Hebrew Bible, Talmud, Midrash, Halakha, Medieval Jewish philosophy, Kabbalah, Hassidut, modern Jewish thought, etc.
It’s free online–they uploaded PDFs of the whole book.
So, nu, anybody who teaches adults about Jewy things (and maybe teenagers, too, for some of this stuff) might find this interesting and useful, as might anyone who wants a nice little theological survey–there are some good essays in there.
Anyway, the whole thing can be found here.

  1. Thank you for posting this, Danya. I’m working on figuring out my relationship to Judaism right now. This should be a big help.

  2. Yes, thanks for posting.
So, when did the University of Judaism change its name to the American Jewish University? For that matter, why did it change?
I was just there less than a month ago (to accompany a friend to the mikveh) and I didn’t notice a name change.

  3. Thanks for the post. If you deal with teenagers and God, there is a great book coming out from Torah Aura Productions around October that lays out a method for engaging teens in the ultimate. The contributing authors are all young (20 and 30 somethings) Rabbinical students, educators, and Jewish professionals. A must have for personal exploration or to use with kids. I highly recommend it (I’m one of the authors tee-hee)!

  4. Yeah, the Mickey Mouse thing was kind of weird. I don’t think that Rabbi Artson really thought through the implications of comparing an adult relationship with God to a child’s love of a person in a Mickey suit.
Other than that, I’m picking through Unit 1 and there’s some interesting food for thought in there.

  5. Yeah, I don’t deny the value of the source materials – I’ve been looking for something like this project for a long time. But the Mickey Mouse thing totally weirded me out.
