Yonatan Shapira and Bassam Aramin, two Combatants for Peace, in NYC
A quick update from the peace beat, an event tomorrow in Manhattan. Last year at this time, C4P did a tour in the states promoting cessation of violence on both sides. During the tour, Bassam’s daughter was hit with a rubber bullet and died. Now C4P continues their tour across the states, including this stop in New York City.

Exactly one year after Abir Aramin was fatally wounded, founding members Bassam Aramin and Yonatan Shapira begin a national speaking tour with Combatants for Peace. Bassam’s wife Salwa and daughter Areen will be present.
On January 16, 2007, 3 Palestinian girls were walking home from school in Anata, East Jerusalem. An Israeli Border Police jeep drove through the school zone firing rubber bullets; Abir was wounded and died 3 days later. She was 10 years old. ABIR’S GARDEN has emerged as a way of memorializing Abir by building a safe place for her classmates to gather, play and heal on the grounds of her school.
Combatants for Peace are former Israeli and Palestinian fighters who no longer see each other as as enemies. They advocate together for an end to the Occupation. Abir’s father, Bassam Aramin was a Fatah fighter and served 7 years in an Israeli prison. He is now head of the Al Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue. In 2007 he received the Bremen Peace Award for reconciliation work in the Middle East and the Eliav-Sartawi Award for Middle Eastern Journalism by Search for Common Ground. Yonatan Shapira , was a captain in the Israeli Air Force and Black Hawk Pilot Squadron. In 2003 he authored ” The Pilot’s Letter “, refusing to participate in attacks in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

I’ve seen Yonatan speak. he’s worth hearing, no matter what your political views, because I can assure you no matter what side of the debates you fall on, hearing Yonatan will give you something to think about.
They were on CNN yesterday. Shapira was just spewing the same rhetoric we hear from most leftists. Occupation, blah blah blah.
Heard shapir’s views on the on going war on Gazza yesterday and i was flabbergasted with his opinion,because i thought all jes are war mongers
