Pretty Please With a Swastika on Top?

stupidcakePrepare for the latest entry in the “you can’t make this stuff up” hit parade:

The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child’s full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance.

Whaaaa? According to the AP, the disappointed parents claim they gave little Adolf the name because “no one else in the world would have that name.” (Yeah, right…)
There’s so much post-post-post-modern irony to respond to in this story, where oh where to begin? My favorite tidbit:

The Campbells ultimately got their cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania…

  1. There is no company lower than Wal-Mart…anywhere. They are the dogs of the world and will do anything for a buck. Check out how many lawsuits they have against them at any given time by employees alone.

  2. Folks, it’s the kid’s name. How can we blame a cake decorator for writing the name of the kid? I don’t see why it’s a problem, it’s what they named their kid–THAT is the problem. These parents have promised their children a lifetime of hatred and threat of physical violence. But how can a store say, “I don’t like the name of your kid, so no cake for you!”
We need to separate the bizarre and short-sighted decision of the parents from the fact that once a kid has a name, why should you take away his birthday cake? I wonder if the ShopRite thought it was a joke!

  3. they would sell them a cake- and leave room for them to decorate it- they just refused to write “adolph hitler” on the cake.
And as for the sympathy for the kid- Im assuming the 3 year old cant read yet, and wouldn’t be heart broken to see “happy birthday” written on a cake without any name. Maybe this is a lovely window of time for the parents to think about the kind of stress they’re likely to cause the poor child and might head over to a certain government bureau to change it. If they don’t I do feel sorry for the poor kid.
