Disco! Disco!

Adam Lambert has received a lot of attention for his daring song choices, his dramatic make-up, and his dedication to falsetto on this season’s American Idol. Lambert has created quite a buzz because <gasp> he’s gay!! And as it turns out, <gasp> he might also be Jewish! Now, I know we aren’t supposed to be idol worshippers, but a gay, Jewish Idol might just put me over the edge.
So, though, I’m not sure how I feel about the English translation of the verses in this arrangement, I couldn’t not provide you with your potential future Idol falsettoing away in Hebrew with some Israeli gals:

  1. Adam Lambert created so much buzz simply because he is the best discovery of American Idol in its entire history. Since he is so much of a sensation, a lot of anti-Adam are doing all possible to put him down, thus, the exposure of those photos which they thought would affect him but to their surprise, those photos have no effect at all. In fact, his fan base is getting bigger and bigger each day — young and old, males and females, gays and lesbians, rich and poor, Christians & non-Christians and even aliens. And fact is… his detractors love watching him so much when he performs!!!

  2. Hey guys, maybe it’s early to make the announcement, but can we get a post up about Sharansky being offered the Jewish Agency head? In my view, it’s about time! He would have been running the disastrously mismanaged Jewish Agency since 2005 if not for Sharon’s Gaza debacle.
I met Sharansky with a group of students in Jerusalem in 2004. He is one in a small group of names (along with the likes of Sakharov) my parents whispered about with unreserved admiration back in the FSU.
He has a grasp of the threats to the Jewish people. More importantly, he can speak effectively to both Jews and non-Jews about advancing core Jewish priorities.

  3. Wow Zara! That is some serious Lambert fandom!
I’m going to have to disagree with you that he is the best discovery in AI history. In my opinion, he isn’t even the best Jewish discovery in AI history (see Elliot Yamin), and he’s far from the best with no qualifiers (see Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Chris Daughtry).
I do think that the fact that he was outed by malicious intenders and that it had no known impact on his standing in the competition (we will never know if his vote totals suffered, just that they couldn’t have suffered enough to eliminate him) shows yet again that we have turned a corner in terms of public acceptance of GLBT folks in entertainment. He did not weather the outing because he’s so musically talented, but because fewer people see it as scandalous.

  4. I’m not an AI follower, but did Lambert respond to the picture(s)? Pictures of a man kissing other men don’t make him gay or prove anything about his identity. (Similarly, do we know he’s Jewish, or just assume so from the above video?)
