Breaking the Silence is a group of veteran Israeli soldiers whose mission is to give public witness to their experiences of military service in the West Bank and Gaza in order to force Israeli society to address the reality of Israeli policies. Since 2004, Breaking the Silence has taken testimony from hundreds of soldiers. These interviews are published at www.breakingthesilence.org.il, in booklets, and throughout the media.

This event is organized by Americans for Peace Now, the Foundation for Middle East Peace, Churches for Middle East Peace, the New Israel Fund, Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, and the Israel Policy Forum.
Israel should hold the same spectacle for American, Britsh, German, Spanish, Italian, French and Canadian soldiers wanting to speak out against the “crimes” commited by their troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. After reading most of the “testimonies” it is obvious who will be running to attend this event; people who have never witnessed a war first hand. Go out a look for an infantryman where you live and hand out some of these testimonies to him. I’m sure he will give you a smile and welcome you to the reality of war.
