There is such hatred in this world. Spiteful cowards, full of anger, commit vandalism, knocking over headstones in the dark, disrespecting our memories. Bitter, mean-spirited people make phone calls to JCCs, inconveniencing two year olds and scaring their families and teachers. What kind of angry, hateful person picks on two year olds?
But the two year olds will prevail.
Look at any one of those two year olds this Shabbat, and I guarantee you will find a joyous person, celebrating what it means to be a Jew. There will be squeals of joy and sticky poppyseed filling and holiday celebrations, and that spirit will win the day.
And the memories of our ancestors will prevail.
We will continue to live Jewishly, to wrestle with our holy texts, to honor the memories of our departed loved ones. Their memories will continue to bless us. We will continue to be Jews.
And I will continue to make my little videos, wrestling with the Torah, honoring mothers and matriarchs and queerness. I will continue to bring light and sparkles to my little corner of the Jewish world, and no amount of hatred or threats will ever stop me.
