God Bless America and No Place Else

I don’t know how the hell this slipped under the radar for nearly a week.

The NY Times reports,

On Independence Day, Lady Liberty was born again.
As the congregation of the World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church looked on and its pastor, Apostle Alton R. Williams, presided, a brown shroud much like a burqa was pulled away to reveal a giant statue of the Lady, but with the Ten Commandments under one arm and “Jehovah” inscribed on her crown.
And in place of a torch, she held aloft a large gold cross, as if to ward off the pawnshops, the car dealerships and the discount furniture outlets at the busy corner of Kirby Parkway and Winchester that is her home. A single tear graced her cheek.
It was not clear if she was crying because of her new home, her new identity as a symbol of religion or, as the pastor said, America’s increasing godlessness.

  1. i caught it on raw story, jspot and njdc
and it was the number 2 prepared item on my desktop before by computer hell began thursday evening.
(number one was the delaware story)
    aw well.
Sucks that the jewish media and blogs dont seem to care about this one. (or dont wanna know about it cuz it shatters their validation)

  2. Asking a question like “Where Do Jews, Others Fit Into a Christian Nation?” makes me wonder how the answer to that question applies to “Where Do Muslims, Others Fit Into a Jewish Nation?”

  3. “It was not clear if she was crying because of her new home, her new identity as a symbol of religion or, as the pastor said, America’s increasing godlessness.”
Pretty snarky line, even in a casual story labeled “Memphis Journal.” Especially because the pastor, who designed the statue, tells her exactly wha tthe tear is suposed to symbolize.

  4. My bumper sticker, on the car, and in the house window, says, “God Bless the Whole World — No Exceptions.”
Oddly, both the window of my house, and the side view mirror of my car, have been smashed.

  5. Been off computer for a week. But I’ll tell you why she’s crying… because she knows that later, the people that have hijacked her symbolism will give their kids a video game to play where the goal is to kill as many New Yorkers as possible.
