Wolfowitz: Terrorists Are Nazis

Big News Network reports,

Wolfowitz characterized terrorists who routinely employ suicide-attack tactics as “people who worship death more than they seem to worship anything else.”

Today’s radical Islamic terrorists, Wolfowitz pointed out, “remind you of the notorious Nazi groups like the SS that proudly wore the death’s head as their symbol.”

Quick, someone tell Abe Foxman, the Deputy Secretary of Defense is cheapening the Holocaust! Oh, wait, right, it’s okay when he draws such a comparison, because he’s a Republican.

  1. Geez. Wolfowitz ought to know better, a Jew making stupid Nazi analogies… sheesh. I mean if you’re going to compare suicide bombers to past oppressors of the Jews, a more apt comparison might be… hmmm, I dunno, rampaging cossacks on a pogrom perhaps?

  2. so mobius, who has equated zionism to nazism, and has been heartily criticized for it, somehow feels vindicated by the comparacism of nazis to terrorists? just what is mobius doing in israel, anyway? and what jewish money is supporting him while hes there?

  3. Mo, this isn’t a bad comparison – they both want to exterminate the Jews.
Maybe you would never hear a Democrat comparing an Islamic terrorist to a Nazi because that wouldn’t be politically sensitive. It’s much better for them to compare Bush to a Nazi.

  4. While I understand the criticism,at least PW found a point of comparison as opposed to making some big blanket statement. Specifically, he was saying both evil groups act/acted like a death cult. Could be worse.

  5. That’s it! From now on, Wolfowitz doesn’t get communion, er…kiddush…maybe, crackers…HE’S NOT GETTING ANY MATZOH BALL SOUP AT MY SHABBOS TABLE!!!
But seriously, the Republicans are using a double standard. To criticize the MoveOn add, then the show that same footage again in their own ad, is grossly hypocritical. That being said, we’re supposed to “never forget” the Holocaust and “learn the lesson of history”. The most obvious way to learn the lesson would be to stop other genocides from occurring. We also need to be careful not to let the same kind of scapegoating and mob mentality occur in our society, lest we venture even a few steps down that same road.
Avi, you’ve still got a little foam on the side of your mouth.
But are the terrorists like Nazis? In many ways, yes, they are. They are often racist, wanting an exclusively Arab pan-Arabia. They are clearly antisemitic. They base a lot of their views on distortions of old religions and the declarations of ideologues. I must admit, as loathsome as he is, Wolfie is probably mostly right on this one. Of course, if the terrorists are Nazis, than the war in Iraq would be roughly equivalent to us putting 90% of our troops in the Pacific theater. Except that Iraq didn’t attack us.

  6. …fundamentalists possess an intolerant, non-negotiable ideology and world view that has no regard for human rights or the rule of law…
…”the threat we face is ambitious” as well as “enormous and unprecedented.”
Maybe this guy should take a look in a mirror.

  7. No, but the Japanese (who, in my analogy are Iraq, an entirely separate entity from the terrorists) did attack us at a place called Pearl Harbor. And, by the way, the President at the time formed an Independent commission into the attacks almost immediately.

  8. EMTZ, your analogy is flawed. It works much better when Iraq is Germany and Al-Qaeda is Japan–the Japanese bombed us with planes, but the Germans became the real focus of the war for strategic means.
As for the “Terrorists are Nazis” analogy, read Paul Berman’s Terror and Liberalism. Or read the American Prospect article on-line. If, after you read a card carrying Liberal’s book, you still don’t agree, then we’ll talk.

  9. The way I see it, the Nazis and the terrorists are almost the same thing, as they both desperately desire to see the extermination of the Jewish people. You can quibble and argue about it all you want, but in the end, that’s what it comes down to.
Your online neo-prentious psuedo-intellectual babbling is growing tiring. Some of you ought to step back from your screens for a few minutes. Go grab some nosh, bitches.

  10. the big similarity and the reason no one will call wolfowitz on this is that both the nazis and “the terrorists” (whoever the hell they are) are official enemies of the U.S. thus, they both fall into the camp of absolute evil, and we hate them freely, and most people don’t even understand why you would question this comparison.

  11. true that.
Wolfowitz drew a fair comparison within the context of his message.
[Today’s radical Islamic terrorists, Wolfowitz pointed out, “remind you of the notorious Nazi groups like the SS that proudly wore the death’s head as their symbol.”]
Wanton death and destruction. Not cool.

  12. can we please stop using the term ‘holocaust’ and refer to it as the ‘shoah’ instead? Holocaust means: a sacrificial offering that is consumed entirely by flames.
Also, I’m not comfortable with the idea of ‘cheapening’ the holocaust; what does that mean? Are we supposed to look back on the shoah as an ‘enriching’ part of Jewish history? Perhaps you meant exploiting the shoah??

  13. well after reading your thoughts on Wolfoshitz i have come to the conclusion that not only are you possibly ignorant of the facts of real history but you are indeed highly selfcentered as a people or group.
this attitude will only bring you misery in the long run. take a good long hard look at (1) the facts of history HERE > http://www.ihr.org as opposed to the propagandised version HERE > adl.org (2) recognise that you too have been lied to (3) do something about it before it’s too late. if you think that the world is going to put up with folks like you for very much longer you are yet again sadly mistaken…
