Harassment and unwanted advances by donors are challenging for organizations to address and pose serious risks to both morale and finances. These incidents press all the ‘hot buttons’ of power, class and gender inequality and are a touchstone for your organization’s commitment to its values and staff. Though anecdotes abound there is little information on specific steps organizations can take to safeguard their staff without compromising development efforts.
This type of harassment is often excluded from insurance policies covering claims by your employees though your organization may still be liable. Thus it is perennially at the top of lists of organizational risks prepared by attorneys serving nonprofits.
Many ED’s comfortable handling inappropriate behavior by employees have no idea what to do if a donor, board member, or dedicated volunteer makes unwanted advances on a member of your staff. Yet the disposition of this type of situation can be a make-or-break moment for your organization.
Join us for a one-hour webinar with Professor Richard Waters, who has spent more than a decade studying and teaching about donors and harassment in the Nonprofit Management program at the University of San Francisco. No one completes Professor Waters’ course without doing an assignment on minimizing and managing sexual harassment for fundraisers. See a scintillating sample here.
Professor Waters will share his learnings and offer specific techniques for keeping development staff safe without compromising funder relations. He’ll discuss other types of Third-Party Harassment as well.
This webinar is appropriate for all Jewish Communal Professionals with a connection to fundraising as well as their supervisors. Participants will receive a checklist of best practices as well as other resources and materials. We look forward to sharing solutions and to helping you make your organization and our community safer and stronger.
