AJC Shifts Rigthward

“The American Jewish Congress has changed, but it’s not clear that its constituents changed along with it,” said Jonathan Sarna, the Joseph H. and Belle Braun Professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. “You ignore your history and your constituents at your peril.”

With the return of terrorism in Israel, the domestic/foreign balance is being skewed in all Jewish organizations, this observer said. “But the change at the AJCongress has been particularly dramatic. The focus used to be mostly domestic; now it’s mostly Israel, and pretty hard-line.”

The American Jewish Congress takes a “sharp turn to the Right.”
