Jews, Elves, Babylonians, and Rush Limbaugh

I found this piece really interesting and inspiring. Good read if you are into: theology, progressive politics, history of religion, sci-fi, Emuna Ilish, etc…
I like this part towards the end:
The trick of being sci fi is to keep focused on the future we want, but to understand that getting there is going to be difficult.
How about this too?
The trick of being a Jew is to keep focused on the future we want, but to understand that getting there is going to be difficult.
Is Judaism inherently a progressive religion? Are you a sci-fi Jew?

  1. Tremendously enjoyed the essay, even if it’s mostly feel-good self-back-patting preaching to the choir. My favorite sci-fi author, David Brin, has made similar points in various essays — but he doesn’t see the fight as between liberals and conservatives, but between pragmatists and ideologues.

  2. Nothing wrong with a little bit of self patting every now and then, gotta keep that fire going! Interesting chiluk between pragmatists and ideologues. Are all ideologues looking backwards to some kind of lost ideal?
