Mmmm…Cholent
Perhaps the most universal Jewish dish, this meal-in-one-pot is one of the few cooking formulas with roots in the Torah. Not that you would find a commandment, “thou shalt eat cholent.” It’s the prohibition against lighting a fire on Shabbat that led to the prominence of this age-old entree.
Faye Levy discusses the joy of cholent in The Jerusalem Post, and includes an easy 4 hour (as opposed to 16 hour) cholent recipe.
