As Israeli and Palestinian delegates met in Switzerland to launch the Geneva Accord, the Palestinian Religious Scholars Association, one of the leading Islamic bodies in the Palestinian Authority, issued a fatwa (religious decree) forbidding any Muslim from signing an agreement that forgoes the right of return for all refugees to their original homes inside Israel.

The fatwa came as thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip took to the streets to protest against the Geneva Accord.

On the other side of the fence, Ehud Olmert criticized Colin Powell for backing the deal, and former Prime Minister Ehud Barak told the press that the plan “rewards terrorism.”

Well, I think Geneva’s pretty much dead in the water. At least our hope isn’t.
