Rabbi Knighted By Pope

Rabbi David Rosen, the international director of interreligious affairs for the American Jewish Committee and the recently appointed head of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultation, (IJCIC) shall be formally honored as a Papal Knight by Pope Benedic XVI. A former Chief rabbi of Ireland, Rosen will be “officially decorated” by Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Holy See’s Commission for Religious Relations with Jewry, with the Knight Commander of the Pontifical Order of St. Gregory the Great, at a ceremony on Thursday in Jerusalem. Not the first jew to receive the honor, Rosen is an outspoken veteran of Catholic-Jewish dialogue.

  1. As I put it on my blog, this Rabbi is a kapo.
In 2005 we don’t need the Catholics nor do we need good relations with them. Thank God (and thank liberalism) they and their kind caan no longer hurt us.
So there is absolutely no reason for us to suck up to the Pope. The Catholics have no choices: They can either act like human beings and give us the respect we deserve, or they can step out of line again, and get slapped down by our real friends: the secular liberals.

  2. On the one hand, DovBear calls secular liberals our real friends. On the other, he espouses an insular, bigoted ideology that only someone on the extreme religious right would feel comfortable with. Then he says “the Catholics” have no choices, and immediately outlines two choices. Diagnosis: schizophrenic argumentation. Rx: should not run a blog until he can form a single logically coherent thought.

  3. I always admired dovbear for his views of american politics being very similar to my own, but i am having a hard time dealing with this additional backwards logic to go along with his intolerance and apparant hatred of hassidim.

  4. I too don’t see the reason to continue sucking up to the catholics especially when they still continue to try and take back Israel. If you’ve missed it, Israeli president Katsav will be meeting shortly with the Pope to hand over land in Jerusalem, including the tomb of King David.

  5. I don’t hate Hassidim, and I am so tolerant of them, that I daven in a Hasidic shteeble. You’re mistaking my unwillingness to lie about them, to pretty up their flaws and mistakes, for intolerance.
Good point badchen about the editing error. Catholics do have choices: The two I outlined
