The Antisemitic Flirtations of Ralph Nader

John-Paul Pagano writes,

Few people realize, though, just how precipitous Nader’s fall has been. Driven into a corner by both his lousy political gamesmanship, and the tectonic redefinition by 9/11 of the ideological playing field, Nader has begun to flirt with what George Will calls “that hardy perennial of the right”, which in recent times has been embraced by so many on the Left: anti-Semitism.

Interesting info in there about Buchanan and the Reform party as well. (c/o Protocols)

  1. I’m sorry but I think this story on Watchblog is a crock, with regards to the claim that Nader is an anti-semite
I don’t see what’s anti-semitic about what Nader says at all. It’s like hmm.. $10 billion in loan guanatees to Israel last year alone, not including the usual several billion in grants, and if Nader says Israelis and American Jews have something to do with that, it’s an antisemitic canard ??
The article seems to not be able to prove Nader is an anti-semite convincingly so it tries to tar him by association with Pat Buchanan and Republicans
We can agree with Pat Buchanan that Bush sucks without accepting any of his other views

  2. JohnBrown,
Alright, I admit I stopped reading when he talked about crypto-fascist cults, and I’m not really familiar with WatchBlog’s politics. But just because this guy is crazy doesn’t mean he’s completely wrong. I think Buchannan is definitely an antisemite, and his party has some strong racist ideologies (protectionism, isolationism, xenophobia).
Nader’s “puppet” rhetoric echo’s a bit to strongly some of the old antisemitic ideas of the Jews in the shadows running government. While there’s nothing wrong with him going for the Muslim vote, or for the xenophobe vote, but the two seem mutually exclusive.

  3. Score one for ZOG!
As broadcast on the American cable
network C-Span, independent presidential candidate and
environmental crusader Ralph Nader said the following:
“What has been happening over the years is a
predictable routine of foreign visitation from the head of the
Israeli government. The Israeli puppeteer travels to
Washington. The Israeli puppeteer meets with the puppet in the White House, and then moves down Pennsylvania Avenue, and meets with the puppets in Congress. And then takes back billions of taxpayer dollars. It is time for the Washington puppet show to be replaced by the Washington peace show.”
He made the speech as part of a conference of the
Council for the National Interest titled, “The Muslim Vote
    in Election 2004”
. In addition to Nader, speakers
included Ambassador Edward Peck, former Iraq Chief of Mission
    and others.

  4. “I see no anti-Semitic implications in denial of the existence of gas chambers, or even denial of the holocaust. Nor would there be anti-Semitic implications, per se, in the claim that the holocaust (whether one believes it took place or not) is being exploited, viciously so, by apologists for Israeli repression and violence.” noam chomsky
“Anti-Semitism is no longer a problem, fortunately. It’s raised, but it’s raised because privileged people[jews] want to make sure they have total control, not just 98% control. That’s why anti-Semitism is becoming an issue. Not because of the threat of anti-Semitism; they want to make sure there’s no critical look at the policies the US (and they themselves) support in the Middle East.” also noam chomsky
anyone else noticing a pattern amongs leftists?

Yes as a matter of fact, I do notice a pattern among lefists..
The pattern is that many right wingers can’t argue with them based on facts so they depend on the old propaganda tools of Ad Hominem attacks, or a made up quotes, or trying to make them seem guilty by association instead.
Oh, he’s been tied to Pat Buchanan” Well realize it or not, Pat Buchanan may well be nuts, but isn’t just some random nutball. He was one of Nixon’s speech writers. This guy worked in the whitehouse for years. Supposedly legitimate TV networks give him air time regularly. Therefore tons of people have had some tie to him or another.

  6. hey babylonia, no generalities, dude: do you deny the accuracy of the chomsky quotes? (glad to give you cites); is it ad hominmen to attack someone personally for their own antisemetic statements? i guess so, but so what? guilty by association? if several individuals are antisemites (as their own statements would indicate in the case of nader, chomsky) why not associate them? look forward to your considered response.

  7. avi:
You should try reading the whole Chomsky article that quote is pulled from – it’s good.
It talks about exactly the kind of anti-Semitism baiting tactic you’re trying to use right now…
I’ve listened to Chomsky speak extensively, and I really don’t believe he:
    1) denies the holocaust in any way
    2) thinks of Jews as being less equal than any other people
    3) dislikes Jews
    4) hates his Jewishness
he’s a Hebrew scholar, still reads a lot in Hebrew. He’s cool with who he is. I also don’t believe for a minute that Ralph Nader is anti-semitic either.

  8. JB: You criticize the “right” for preferring the ad hominem to a genuine exchange of “facts” (who are these righties? Names?). However, when it comes time to debate look at yourself man! Simply as an example I’ll reproduce your above quote in it’s entirety and point out a few things to yourself and the general public (JB in quotes):
“You should try reading the whole Chomsky article that quote is pulled from – it’s good.”
Argument from authority (opponent has not read the entire article) followed by hollow praise for article (“it’s good”) facts=0
It talks about exactly the kind of anti-Semitism baiting tactic you’re trying to use right now…
    And these tactics are…? facts=0
I’ve listened to Chomsky speak extensively, and I really don’t believe he:
    1) denies the holocaust in any way
    2) thinks of Jews as being less equal than any other people
    3) dislikes Jews
    4) hates his Jewishness
Again argument from position of authority followed by your opinions… facts=0
he’s a Hebrew scholar, still reads a lot in Hebrew. He’s cool with who he is. I also don’t believe for a minute that Ralph Nader is anti-semitic either.
Ah your beliefs again. ( facts=0)
Why do you believe these things JB? If you don’t tell us why then you bait nasty rightists into pulling out ad hominems because, admit it, your rhetorical strategy is quite frustruating when confronted by a serious person such as myself.

  9. Johnny, lets try your analysis on yourself (from a different thread)”
    ***
“I think Chomsky’s politics stopped developing when he was a 19 year old anti-WTO anarchist hippy punk. People are greedy. People rebel against greed. Snore-fest. ”
i already commented on this. WTO was created in 1995, Chomsky was 19 in 1947. ad hominem that doesnt even make sense 🙂

  10. “I think Chomsky’s politics stopped developing when he was a 19 year old anti-WTO anarchist hippy punk”
AS-T: umm that was a joke, more at the expense of the “wto hippy punks” than Chomsky himself (Can you imagine Chomsky dressed in olive and black…with ear plugs?)
“People are greedy. People rebel against greed”
This isn’t so much an ad hominem as a gross summarization of Paul Berman’s critique of Chomsky’s political philosophy provided in “Terror and Liberalism”. It’s really an excellent book and I highly recommend it. Sorry I let it go unreferenced but i didn’t know JewSchool was so rigorous when it came to providing sources.
And before *you* start dragging old posts of mine from previous threads maybe JB could answer for just *one* of his *own* dangling, pieces of… bullshit. Check out his website. It links to all manner of wild conspiracy. Totally unsubstantiated. Bigotted. Dangerous.

  11. sample: from newsfrombabylon.com
“Bush Using Drugs to Control Depression, Erratic Behavior”
The prescription drugs, administered by Col. Richard J. Tubb, the White House physician, can impair the President’s mental faculties and decrease both his physical capabilities and his ability to respond to a crisis, administration aides admit privately.
    (And I ain’t cherry-picking. Wonder why this wasn’t picked up by AP…)
JB is deranged, and that’s coming from an adamant liberal.

  12. Nader appears paraniod, but he might just be trying to make peace between the semitic people. His intentions might be to access a peace code for international relations.
He grew up being taught to think for himself, or so I picked up from a course with his sis’.

  13. Nadar was practically raised by Jews. Please.
Anyone who hangs with the man (in CT, on a personal basis) knows, quite easily, that this is garbage.
Another example of the American democratic resistance eating its own. Shame.
