The Ties That Bind

I just got this advertisment submission for this company called Ancient Ties. “Buh? A tie company advertising on Jewschool?” I ask myself. “What gives?” You know—who wants to advertise ties on a site like ours? So I go check it out, and really, I’m floored. These ties are awesome! Check ’em out. They’re totally swank. I especially dig the helix, but the Biblical Passages collection is really nice too.

  1. uhm…what is this page about? you’re all gay lil jews, why the fuck do u need ur own site?
oh, P.S.–i don’t appreiate u jesus killers stealing the anarchy sign.

  2. Wow judenhaas troll alert!
Funny thing is, the whole anarchy thing means they didn’t copywrite the logo so it can’t be stolen really. You can’t steal what was never property…

  3. The ties are interesting. Although it’s a little weird that the zodiac designs would follow the Gregorian calendar, no?

  4. clueless skinheads for some reason identify with the anarchy symbol, more or less because of its relationship to the punk and hardcore scenes. due to the proliferation of ignorance on the subject, they accept the establishment definition of anarchy (which was fostered to marginalize the growing threat of anarchism, a viable philosophy was challenged the authoritarian attitudes of the status quo) which implies chaos or some other sort of nihilistic intention.
anarchism, however, is the philosophy of social libertarianism, which means precisely non-hierarchical human interaction with an emphasis on mutual aid. some of the greatest proponents of anarchism were secular jews who were incorporating “de-judaized” jewish values into their political theories.
thus i produly long for the days of emma goldman’s hebrew anarchist league.

  5. i dunno. the whole

…seems like a load of bull. A lot of the youths that support such “non-hierarchal human interaction” are the same ones who form iconographies that privelege one “set” of ideological figures above another. Your mentioning of Emma Goldman presents this contradiction perfectly. If anarchists hated Emma Goldman for her stature among the anarchists they would be espousing truly non-hierarchichal ideals. She’s smooth cuz she didn’t get the chance to idolized by progressive jewish boys and girls at our fine nations liberal arts schools, one of which I am find myself so privileged to attend.

  6. It’s late – peep the correcion.

  7. mmm .. taking pot shots at noam chomsky. way to get ahead. eli, can i ask a question–and will you give me an honest answer? what have you read by noam chomsky?

  8. do you mean chomsky or emma goldman?
for chomsky, the two i’ve most recently read were Fateful Triangle and On Language, which is an anthology of his linguistic work. High school found me very interested in his CDs, the most memorable being Class War. I’m not sure all the Chomsky books I have read I can recollect here without looking them up on Amazon or something. I did go through a pretty thick phase where Chomsky became a benchmark for my political and social thinking. Then I realized he’s a far more prolific than he is textured. He is a brilliant linguist, evidenced by his prolific and exhaustible effort to publish many deceptively awe-inspiring volumes each year. He’s good for the nesecarry “chomsky” view. I’m more enthused by his intellect than i am by his rhetoric.
In terms of sweet Emma, I only begun to read her writings. I recently completed “anarchism and other essays” It was interesting to begin to understand why assimilated Jews find her so inspirational. Her contempt and analysis of patriotism is really smooth, and it points to a Jewish “in between” feelings that causes many American Jews to feel uneasy with both American and Jewish national emotion. I just picked up Living my Life at the UVA library, which is a pretty sweet looking book.
We’ll see. I think someone needs to take the rabbinics outta emma for her to really shine.

  9. o and if ur into hardcore music, my friend Yoni plays in “The Distance” a sick south conn hardcore band that is touring the west coast very soon. It’s loud yidden at its very best – no matter the boys and girls who come out to the shows look straight outta american history x. What would it look like to do the windmill with tefillin on?

  10. Damn, I was just going to laugh at your taste in ties Mo! (Can I call you Mo?) Now the whole anti semite thing has to come by and ruin a good joke.
The ties are AWFUL. That is all 🙂
Of course the anti semite is in worse taste. Maybe we can track her down and make her wear the ties. Kind of like a punishment for being such a doofus.
Teh all her antisemite freinds would shun her as a jew, and make fun of her for having NO TASTE!! (I cant beleive you like those ties)
It just occured to me.. You are getting paid to advertise the ties. Pretty slick man, (wink wink), I shall say no more.
    Peace
    Avi

  11. Nice post Avi I was going to say the exact same thing.
“Gay little jews” that’s a good one.
Makes us sound the seven dwarfs or something.
I mean for crying out loud, what is a special interest group doing on the INTERNET!? Right Eileen?
Regarding the tie thing- very meta advert Mobius-
I now know what my father-in-law will be getting for his birthday now- he totally digs that jewish(art?) as fashion thing.

  12. I like the ties, but the post wasn’t a shining beacon of journalistic objectivity. Still, this is a blog, not fox news, so you can’t expect everything to be fair and balanced.

  13. The ties may be cool conceptually,,,,but we souldnt make fashion from religios simbols…right?
    peace.
