What's at Stake in 2006?
The fine folks over at the RAC (the Reform Religious Action Center), have, as part of their blog, a series of conversations on what’s at stake inthe upcoming elections. In the most recent post (part II), Annette Ezekiel, bandleader of JDub Records’ artist Golem, comments on what she saw while travelling during a three-week tour in the USA.
She says, “I can tell you – those ‘folks’ on TV do represent somebody in this country. Real people. We drove through places in the midwest where there were anti-abortion and fundamentalist billboards every few miles along the highways. We were shocked, but why? The people behind those signs didn’t show up at the Golem shows (at least I don’t think they did!) because Jewish folk-punk from New York probably isn’t their cup of tea – but they’re out there, and guess what? They elect politicians who represent their interests. It’s not rocket science. To have people in courts, in Congress, in the White House, who represent what is important to you, you have to vote for them. Period.”

So what he is saying is, vote for the pro-choice party to diminish your influence.
I am one of those people that would put up an anti-abortion sign.I am very pro life.I have a 21 yr old daughter and I would hope that if she were ever in a bind, she would choose life/adoption etc. AH! How can I say that? because I WAS in that bind. I was 21, PG and not married. That 21 year old daughter I mentioned is the blessing that resulted. She changed my life 100% for the good and is in no doubt a blessing from Hashem, as are all kids.
But I am a Southerner and tend to vote with my evangelical pals .
I am voting for Kinky ( not much of a Jew) Freidman for Tx Gov. I vote IND. not a straight party tix.
And I love Golem! I play their CD while my 10th graders are having snack during my class on Sunday!
a clarification…they vote for people who represent their abstract beliefs, not their interests. most of people in the country (hence, most of the people who vote for republicans) are too poor for anyone to be actually representing our interests

Because you live in a little self-referential East Coast liberal bubble where you sneer at everyone else you feel superior to. You need to get out more and stop being so fond of yourself. Maybe listen for a change, like to the woman in the previous comment.
(If I still lived in TX I would also vote for Kinky. And not just becasue he was my camp counselor in 1963.)
