Win a Gold; Hug Israel’s President
From Ha’aretz: Windsurfer Friedman wins Israel’s first ever Olympic gold.
President Moshe Katsav congratulated Friedman and invited him for a meeting to give him a “hug.” “I’m happy together with everyone about this win,” Katsav said. “We all had great expectations that Gal would do this.”

Hugs all around.
🙂
CBS says his first name means “wave” in hebrew – can someone verify?
Amazing accomplishment. I’m shepping naches, as they say. 😛
Yes, i can verify. _Gal_ means ‘wave’ in Hebrew. At least in Biblical Hebrew, it can also mean any other ‘pile’-looking thing, like a stone cairn.
very nice, I could have won a gold medal… They just don’t include knish eating in the olympics.. freakin antisemites
Mazal tov.
I liked his giving credit to Israelis for spiritually giving him wind.
Congrats to this bloke for winning Israel’s first gold!
BTW,
the actual video
Apparently, first the first time anyone can remember, immediately after the anthem was over, instead of the usual quiet exit, the podium was stormed by Israeli supporters from the crowd who wanted to stand there as well.
That’s another reason I love living in Israel.
That video brought tears to my eyes– thanks Josh
He looks a lot like Jerry Seinfeld.
