August 22 will commemorate the 350th anniversary of the arrival of the first Jewish immigrant to the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam, Jacob Barsimon, who came to The New World fleeing Jewish persecution in Portugal. Barismon subsequently helped found what became the first Jewish community in the United States.
