Daf Shvu’i/Weekly Daf: Baba bathra 19a-19b
One of the fascinating characteristics of Talmudic debate and discussion is that it does not distinguish between the material and the spiritual; between the rote and the extraordinary—everything is attended to by the discourse, the give and take, of the Sages. This week’s daf is a prime example of a sugya/a discussion which centers and lifts up the seemingly mundane aspects of life from the dung that is used to soften leather to the thin slice of cake resting and rotting on the window pane.
If this does not whet your appetite for some Talmud study I know not what will.
So … Pour your favorite beverage, get your favorite snack, put your feet up, and let’s jump into the milkhamta shel torah/the struggle of Torah study.
