“A new study that underscores the extremely high risk of breast or ovarian cancer in women who inherit a mutated gene common among American Jews has fueled a dramatic increase in requests for genetic testing, officials say.

“But some oncologists and genetic counselors say they worry that the surge reflects misunderstandings about who is at risk and about the limitations and potential consequences of such testing.”
