With all the interest in Baghdad and Iraq, it may come as a surprise to many that there was a flourishing Jewish community there till very recently. Two amazing music CDs are available of the authentic Jewish Iraqi (Babylonian as it is referred to) musical tradition. One was actually recorded in Baghdad in the 1920s by famous Hazzanim. The other was recorded more recently in Israel, by a well known musical family who hail originally from Iraq. These are truly one of a kind recordings. But they are authentic, so if you are not familiar with the style, they might take a little getting used to. But most definitely worth it. (c/o Stern5678)
