KISS frontman Simmons Makes Anti-Islamic Remarks

KISS’s Jewish lead singer, Gene Simmons, has sparked some controversy overseas with remarks he made on an Australian radio program about Islam.

“This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it’s willing to just live in the sands of God’s armpit you’ve got another thing coming,” Simmons said during an interview on Melbourne’s 3AW radio Thursday. “They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you’re evil.”

The incendiary remarks set off a wave of phonecalls to the station condemning Simmons and his remarks. Way to use your celebrity influence… (c/o Shred)

  1. Before 9-11 and the death of Danny Pearl, I would have been offended by his remarks. But today, I have to agree with most of what he said. Un-PC, but pretty on the mark – and believe me, I take no pleasure in saying that.

  2. So the actions of… 20 or so people make you feel empowered to deliver “on the mark” comments about an entire culture?

  4. Maybe ariealla was also referring to the cheering and dancing by hundreds of ordinary arabs in iraq when the american bodies were mutilated and hung from a bridge. Or maybe the thousands of arabs around the middle east who danced and cheered when the planes hit the wtc.  Or maybe the hundred of millions of arabs and muslims who, when asked by pollsters, supported the 9-11 attacks.

As to Gene, he sounds like a bit of a goof. Good at sticking his tongue out. Not so good at, um, political analysis.
Now, Sam, sounds like you’re saying that Islamism is a tiny little pipsqueak not-really-there movement that has far less adherents in the Arab world then, say, sci-fi heavy metal electronica.
For real? ‘Cause this ain’t 20 people. It’s a serious problem, and it’s a major, populist movement which dwarfs neo-Nazism in most countries I’ve been to, anyway.

  6. The thing with celebrities these days is that they are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. When The Dixie Chicks spoke out against President Bush, they were condemned by their audience. But then again, if celebrities were to remain silent – we would regard them as nothing better then fleshy jukeboxes.
One of my favorite quotes (heavily paraphrased) is to the effect of, “Politicians don’t try to make music. Musicians shouldn’t try to talk politics.” Oh wait… Joan Baez who?
Ultimately, and I know I’m relatively incoherant, is that when a celeb tries to speak out on a major issue, they should have established themselves previously as an intelligent speaker. Gene Simmons, as cool as he may be, does not fit this category. “I would like to be Godzilla,” he once emoted.
But I do have to agree that the Muslim world is a heck of a lot different than civilization.

  7. Jews are too politically correct. I agree with Mr. Simmons! Muslim leaders say unequivocally that the life of a non-Mulim has no value!! Why are we playing nice with these Islamists? I think it’s past time to make a few Arab countries glow in the dark! The people complaining abpout this are either Muslims, or neo-Nazis. These people want to finish the job that Christianity started, Hitler inherited, and the Muslims want to finish! I will not go quietly!
    Thank you again Mr. Simmons!

  8. Years ago, I was shocked when my dad told me he liked Gene Simmons. Wait ’till I tell him this story. Oy will he be smiling!

  9. I don’t know if this site is made up of a buch of “Jews by name”. If you all actually understood our religion, you would understand that it is very similar to Islam. Islam doesn’t even condone these killings. You gotta stop watchin Fox News.

  10. Since I saw this animal on the Apprentice he has marked the new low for male behavior and for this he seems to be admired.

  11. I think Gene Simmons went beyond his public image when he made those remarks and I personally know he regrets saying them in public. But he feels this way about Muslims and its culture I believe. But then, so do many Jews. I mean look at what they are doing to Palestinians. It’s amazing how people like Gene get away with hiding behind a mask. I’m glad he came out in the open with his true feelings. Well done dope head Gene. Keep it up.
