Mike D Brings The Hebrew Carbs

Ooh, gotcha, much like Piazza!
Stiff between the sheets so hide the matzah!
Holla back, challah bread, next!
We are the crew the put the crew in crude,
And see the Def Jam doesn’t recognize me!
I’m Mike D–the one who put the satin in your panties!
Tryin’ to count MCs in the place to be,
not 5, not 4, not 2, just 3!

  1. I’ve got a copy of this disc sitting next to me, and I’ve noticed that there are a lot more super semetic lyrics on this disc.
I think this is the first time that Beastie Boys have mentioned their Jewish identities in their rhymes. I would appreciate correcting on this, as I have a review to submit in the next couple days.

  2. One of our writers had a preview of the album yesterday in London and said there were quite a few references. Alas, in London, they are only allowing people to visit the record company and hear the album in their office before the release date.
The lyrics of the current single: Ch-Ch-Check it Out have plenty of Jewish references. Maybe this is their “coming out” stage???
    1. Beasties check out charts: Rap trio the Beastie Boys have made a welcome return to the charts with their first single since 1999, with Ch-Ch-Check It Out going straight in at No 8. However, Jewish fans should pay close attention to the lyrics and theme, which might just be the most Jewish thing the boys have ever done. Not only do they namecheck Star Trek and pay homage to William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in the video (who are also listed in the credits) but they also refer to Einstein, Lorne Greene (Canadian-born star of Bonanza and Battlestar Galactica), Miss Piggy (voiced by Jewish Muppets co-creator Frank Oz) and ‘baby Bubba’.

  3. The line is actually:
    Ooh, gotcha, clutch like Piazza!
Sneak between the sheets so hide the matzah!
And for the record there is at least one other reference to judiasm. I haven’t had the time to go over all their lyricas but from Shardroch on Paul’s Boutique:
“We’re just 3 MCs and we’re on the go / Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego.” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were jews living in Babylon and are in the Bible
