it seems to me that this whole thing of blaming suicide bombings almost purely on religious fanatacism is a dodge to avoid the fact that perhaps people are killing themselves out of pure rage and desperation
If people focus on the religious aspect only it is a convenient scapegoat and allows people to totally bypass ugly topics
The “Palestinians” are desperate because they support terrorism not the other way around, the whole reason they are in this situation is because the people they chose as leaders started out not recognising the state of Israel and wanted to push all the Jews in to the sea, since their Arab war against Jews failed they have found themselves in terror limbo, when they renounce terrorism their will be no need for a wall or Israeli troops to go looking for terrorists, then they will be able to get on with their lives.

this whole thing of blaming suicide bombings almost purely on religious fanatacism, and if people focus on the religious aspect only it is a convenient scapegoat. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. They’re not. In fact, I suspect that they know a fair bit about suicide bombings. What this comes down to is that this might help, it won’t hurt, it costs little, and religious indoctrination is indeed a part of the suicide-bomber training technique. If one were to argue that there is no religious component, faith is disconnected, and that no suicide bombers believe themselves to be shahidat (religious martyrs), then one would not have a very strong argument.

There are lots of folks in the world who are really angry, really desperate, and really poor — in places that make the West Bank look like relative paradises — and don’t blow themselves up in really crowded areas. Are psychologists running amok trying to figure out why they’re not channelling their feeling through the perfectly normal reaction of suicide bombing?
No. And yet somehow, in Palestine, this is taken to be just what people do. Well, here’s an alternative explanation. Suicide bombing has been used by Japanese kamikazes, Tamil Tigers, and Islamist “martyrs” in Israel, Iraq, Morocco, Turkey, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Russia, and a whole bunch of other places. It does not spring up spontaneously. It is a tactic. It requires indoctrination. Some people are very good at it. That is impressive. It is also unfortunate.

As engineers learn, solutions that are cheap to implement, that address a large proportion of the problem, and that don’t preclude other activities are generally Good Ideas.
Not that this is particularly bright, effective, or otherwise wise. Just that arguing that not all suicide bombers are Muslim, or that the real reason for suicide bombing is a natural response to objective psychological conditions, or that this proves that Israeli tacticians just don’t get suicide bombing, are all stock arguments that tend to be trotted out in these discussions, and that seem to me to miss the point.

I don’t think that all the suicide bombers are religeous fanatics or that its some kind of “cultural” thing that when they get angry they do this, I blame it solely on their “leadership” secular and religeous that have brainwashed these people from childhood to only believe that all their suffering comes from Jews, also to deny them of the truth of their history and to raise them to believe that there ever was some kind of independant country called “Palestine” that has been taken over, if thugs and terrorists like Arafats PLO had never decieved these people we might have had an Israel with muslims and jews alike building homes and communities in a land that was neglected for 2000 years! The cause of all the Palestinians problems comes from theIr “leaders” basing the identity of their people on pushing the Jews into the sea!
I think Islam also prohibits prohibits murdering of innocent people. So, maybe a quote from the koran that says murdering is a sin would be more effective.
I haven’t read all the posts in depth, but I don’t think this has been discussed. The Brits tried the same thing in their colonies in what is now Pakistan. They weren’t suicide bombers, but the Muslim fighters who they killed would be buried in pigs corpses. But I heard that the Islamic authorities there issued a responsa saying martyrs would still get in to heaven even after contact with a pig. I’m sure Islamic Jihad’s clerics will do the same.

Maybe, but Islam makes its own definition of innocence which is based on religious extremism and thus condemns the trully innocent non-Muslem.
The Koran repeatedly makes statements wishing for the demise of Christians and Jews. For instance, this quote from the Koran- Verse 9.30:
And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!
I have a better idea. How about we get over this stupid, “you’re an apartheid state, man” thing and do what ANY rational nation would do. Fight back, fight back hard, and don’t let killers in your country.

Maybe the Israeli government is already doing everything it can to stop terrorism, but that’s about as easy as stopping people from crossing the U.S./Mexico border. Maybe the situation is a little more complex than a game of Risk. And maybe, in the future, you could post an insightful thought, instead of an insipid slogan.

Do you honestly think that Israel is not restraining themselves?
You can’t have it both ways. Either the Palestinians are a well armed and wiley enemy, or they are poor and defenseless rock chuckers.
Israel can easily deport or massacre them at will. They can also resort to the aformentioned British tactics like pig carcus burial, or something sicker like imprisoning or killing a suicide bomber’s entire family. I’m sure the bomber would think twice before blowing himself up, when he realizes he will have no heir and his wife will not be alive to cash the suicide bombers thank you check.
I’m happy to say that we don’t resort to caveman tactics like the terrorists.
I feel terrible that the innocent victims own people defend these animals.
Not all Palestinians are bad, but to defend the ones that blow themselves up by justifying the actions is despicable.
