Soldiers Arrested For Jerusalem Bomb Scare

Two Israeli soldiers serving in a haredi combat unit are under arrest for allegedly placing a dummy bomb in Jerusalem’s central bus station in protest over the Gaza pullout plan, police said Monday.
The 20-year-old soldiers Meir Bratler and Arieh Katz, members of the Nahal Haredi unit, were apprehended Sunday after they were identified on the closed circuit TV used by security at the bus station.
Bratler is suspected of bringing the large gas canister used in the device to the station hidden inside his army bag, which he was wearing on his back, with security allowing him to pass through the main entrance without a security check because he is a soldier, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said.

Not morons but fearful. Why are Haredi units allowed to do this? Why aren’t they regarded with more suspicion since by definition they are part of an ideology that is entirely open to this kind of thing?
I’ve always felt that the possibility of extremism is good grounds for refusing the Chareidim permission to serve in the IDF. I’ve never understood why secular Israelis wanted Chareidim in their army! You want these people who NEVER go in for half measures, and have a pentchant to extreme religiuos behaviour to join an army!!!???

Wow, you guys are quick to condemn a whole group based on the actions of a few that in themselves are certainly wrong but in the league of real evil. If this is how you correlate behavior to the proper reaction to it, I can only hope that if an identifiable group were to exist that set off real bombs, again and again over decades, and had most of its population heartily agree to this
behavior, then you would be correspondingly harsh.

Let’s hope that was said in ignorance of what Chareidi thought and behavior actually is like. (As an American, it often seems to me that the tendency to never go in for half measures is an ISRAELI one, Chareidi, secular, Leftist, Religious Zionist, whatever.) And since one of my biggest criticisms of Chareidim is that they largely don’t join the army, I couldn’t disagree more. Let all of them who are eligible join the army. It will give the Chareidim some appreciation for what the secular/ religious Zionists have been doing, and will show the others that Chareidim are not aliens. Extremism would be reduced on all sides.

This is how I see it. The chareidim will only joing the army on mass if their leaders give them the go ahead. This go ahead will be something like : (remember my premise >> chareidim never go in for things in half measure) : you should join, becasue its a mitzvah. Therefore, as its a mitzvah, you must engage in it with 100% dedication and purity, and follow the Torah 100%. The Torah says to conquer all these lands and take no mercy. Just surround the Arabs and blow the megaphoned-shofar. Then its seek and destroy.
As a God appointed army, lets use this resource of soldiers to promote ‘Torah true Judaism’ by enforcing tznius (modesty) and Torah study.”
I would really prefer secular people in charge of an institution like an army. Sorry to generalise. But perhaps I’m not generalising. Because unlike you J, I’m not saying that EVERYONE has to join the army.
I respect chareidi conscientious objection – and am eager to maintain this status quo!
i am 100% for charedi units in the army and now the left want to take them out. simply stupid because they want equality between religious and non religious in israel if u ask me…

The Nahl Haredi Infantry unit is one of the most highly motivated and deadly units on the planet . Fear them and do not disrespect them. the jewsih people have warriors to protect them while they sleep, they have who to call upon when they are in danger from goyim.
