After a month long hiatus, Treyf Podcast is back with episode 17. We discuss The Jewish Daily Forward, If Not Now, Bernie Sanders, the Canadian Jewish News, and Jenna Brager's Doykeit zine. We were joined by Michelle Weiser and Jesse Alexander Myerson.
This event was a success not only because it demonstrated the openness of the students in our community, but also because it challenged Brown RISD Hillel to reflect on its ability to facilitate and provide space for this openness. Ultimately, the process of planning this event forced our Hillel to recognize its own lack of openness and to begin reworking its guidelines on Israel/Palestine programming.
The vision of those who founded the state, as inscribed in the Declaration of Independence, was of a state based on the principles of freedom, justice and peace, as envisioned by Israel’s prophets. This Independence Day, alongside celebrations of our national freedom, we must ask ourselves if we have fulfilled the dream of our founding fathers, or whether the ongoing occupation of the Palestinian people prevents us from establishing a society based on freedom, justice and peace.
